Oven cleaning services

Recommended Posts

I cant be alone in my hatred of having to clean the oven, can I? :anxious:

I just wondered if anyone has ever used a professional oven cleaning service and if so did they do a good job?

I think it's time our oven got a good, all over professional clean as the annual clean I give it is just not hitting the mark

I have a self cleaning lining oven so its just the bottom and I line it with special stuff from lakeland and put the shelves in the dishwasher every other week and thats it done! - where is the hasstle - the glass door is easy with the hob s"Ooops, word censored!"er - takes 5 minutes! I have had to go and look at mine - would not take all that long to do. The grill pan in the dishwasher every time I use it so its like new and the oven is quite old now at 6 years old.

I'm very interested to read your replies because a friend of mine had her Smeg double oven absolutely ruined by one of these cleaning firms and it has put me off. Maybe I will reinvestigate.

I do use the Lakeland liner thingy on the bottom of my oven, and we are vegetarian so nothing is dripping in animal fats...but still it all looks a bit grimy to me... :vom: .

My dad always cleaned the cooker at home..(needs the extra elbow grease to make a good job) but I can't persuade the OH it falls into his job list ....but I do love the idea of a sparkly oven...if only they'd also tackle the dishwasher..washing machine (I found an entire pen in pieces in the door rubber last week!) and seals around the fridge

There is not a lot of elbow grease in cleaning my oven these days - the best bit is put the shelves in the dishwasher and take out immediatly when hot and any left over bits just come off with a scourer immediately as very hot = after that do it once a week or 2 weekly and the door is easy if glass with a s"Ooops, word censored!"er thingy. The rubber seals in the fridge - from kim and aggie - use toothpaste or bicarb on the seals!:shock:

Thanks for the tip about the fridge seals Blackrocksrock, I shall try that. Also for the tip about the oven shelves in the dishwasher...not sure I am organised enough to do them once or twice a week though..I think about cleaning my oven about twice a year..is that where I am going wrong

I confess that I pay for someone to come and clean my oven and - in my opinion - it is worth every penny.

When I try and clean the oven, I create about a dozen other cleaning jobs with all the splashing.

Some of you seem to be very organised - it puts me to shame

Its where I went wrong in the past - and was  so embarrassed at mine I decided to keep it like new - well the top oven is really like new and the bottom one is clean and sparkly but not as good as new really. I like to keep the microwave spotless though as hate to see the roof of a bad microwave - yuk - I am not OCD with my cleaning - just clean - dont look at the kitchen floor today though

Oh yess! I couldn't get mine clean, even with the Omlet-forum recommended steam cleaner! I had a company called Oven Wizard come last year, and in an hour or so he got it sparkling clean - he took the trays out and put them in the van in something, but there was no chemical smell and he didn't seem to use any chemicals inside.

I can't use the Lakeland thingy because my oven has an element in the bottom, and although it's got a self-cleaning programme, I reckon the cost of heating it to that temperature for an hour is probably a good proportion of what I paid the professional. I'm going to have it done every year now, and just try and keep on top of it in between.

It's called 'outsourcing', don't ya know! (with thanks to Couperwife for that thought).

I bet you're not lazy - you just have better things to do with your time!

I love cooking, and don't mind cooking from scratch but lots of people 'outsource' their cooking by buying ready meals or pre-prepared veg, for example. You make your choices - I'd rather dig the garden from end to end than clean the oven!

I use Oven Pride. Put the racks in the bag that's provided, pour in the liquid and hey presto all lovely and clean in a couple of hours. Also use it on the inside of my oven and the glass door. No stink either. Am still going to get someone in at somepoint though to take it apart and thoroughly clean it as I can't get to the fan.

We used an outsourcer too to clean the oven. Horrible job. He did a pretty good job and we meant to have it done last year but didn't get around to it.

He came up with some great suggestions for keeping things clean in the meantime. The grill bits on the extractor fan can go in the dishwasher so they get done occasionally :D

I agree that there are too many other yukky jobs to do without adding cleaning the oven to the list.
