Madchook
...more eggs... this time a 'lucky dip' of banties, from all different types kept together, thought I could get them for the children Obviously only setting 12 would have been wasteful wouldn't it??? Madchook
Go on Sha! It's dead exciting. Like being pregnant, but quicker, doesn't make you fat and cheaper LOL, it might come back to bite me, I am being pessimistic about hatch rates after my recent experience...ladedah! PMSL Lewis, exactly what I am doing right now...but they still aren't on
Chick-a-doodle-doo
it's so addictive I'm picking my new eggs up on Friday.. Sha you definately have to have a go... I'm sure I heard a cheep this morning. My new eggs are Cream Legbar thought I would give them a try and at least will be able to tell boys and girls it's the same breeder so he will take my boys back and swap for eggs. Madchook
I do wonder what your breeder does with them all?! Ace for you though! How much did you pay for your lemon thingies (assumig this is a breeder local to you)? I looked at them on fleabay last night but they were £18 (sure they weren't the other day) ...before postage!!! No way am I risking that much on a postage hatch.
chick wiggle
Oh what a lovely mix Good luck with them all I got an e-mail from a GLO breeder yesterday offering eggs and err, accidentally relied
The Dogmother
Go on Sha! It's dead exciting. Like being pregnant, but quicker, doesn't make you fat and cheaper Sorry Madchook, but my feeling is that hatching should be apporached with as much forethought and planning as getting pregnant... these will be live, sentient beings that you are bringing into this world. I take it that you have considered the mess that these chicks will make, the care that they will need (daily cleaning out) and the housing/homes that they will need as they grow. Inevitably, some hatches will end in tears... dud eggs and/deformed chicks, please consider that too.

I would of thought anybody rearing chicks would research first, as I have done and gain extra advice from those on the forum. But it is also nice to share excitement of newly purchased eggs. Madchook, Yes, I did pay something riddiculous for my eggs but I went to his land and collected them. He has acre's and acre's.. It's up to him what he does with the males I know I can't keep them and glad I have someone to take them back.
Madchook
I have a BSc in Animal Management and Applied Biology, live rurally with plenty of space for these chickens, and am raising the boys for the table. So yes, it is well thought out.
Egluntyne
. I would of thought anybody rearing chicks would research first...... I would have thought so to Chick-a-doodle-do, but sadly, this isn't always the case, as evidenced by some of the panic stricken posts and pm's we see. We do have to stress regularly s that rearing chicks is just as much of a a responsibility as buying a puppy, and to urge people to think very carefully before they go ahead. madchickenlady
Gah, Madchhok, I am very . I would love to have the space, and knowledge, to rear many chooklets. As it stands, if I hatch this year I will only be putting 6 eggs in to my little incy. Still excited, though
