Car on fire

Recommended Posts

.. no, not mine. Thankfully

On Sunday as we drove back from a family visit in London, we dropped Phil back at Lucknor and as we drove north of Junction 10 on the M40, I saw a light plume of smoke go up. It looked to be off to one side of the motorway, but as we got closer, it got darker and turned out to be a car on fire in the middle of the southbound carriageway. The flames were very hot as we drove past, and Rosie got some pictures which turned out better than expected. They must have had some warning about the fire as the contents of the vehicle were up at the top of the embankment; a truck driver had stopped the traffic on that side, but the emergency services hadn't arrived just yet.

Our fire extinguisher engineers often stop and help when they see situations like this - obviously this one was too far gone for help but they often put them out if they catch them early enough and we get nice letters from the public :D

That looks particularly fierce Claret and very scary for the owners of the car :(

It looked like it was a relatively new car too.

No doubt by the time the services turned up it would have been burned down to the tarmac!

I always carry a first aid kit, and will stop at accidents if the ambulance hasn't turned up, but there was not stopping in that amount of traffic and they all seemed to be OK.

We saw that too Claret, though it was a darned sight further on than that by the time we passed it...........complete mangled shell, smouldering & surrounded by fire engines & police cars......and how many miles of tailback

I was driving so didn't take as much notice as I might have from the passenger seat
