batcatz
...is working! Instructions: Cut the neck off a robinsons juice bottle just where it begins to get narrower. Push the top upside down inside the bottle without the lid. Put a hole either side to hang it up next to the run or place on floor outside run. I tried one with AVC, sugar and water which didn't work. Next one I tried with chicken poo and water didn't work. Third time lucky.. chicken poo and small bit of water, plus a forkfull of left over hilife tuna cat food. Needs to be above the water level then it attracts the flies! Most drown or can't get out, a few lucky ones escape. I'm sure any type of rotten meat will attract the flies.

Griffin
I've got a red top fly trap that has attracted billions of flies. It was slow to start but it's doing very well now though. It stinks though, I have to hold my breath as I walk by it Will definitely try making my own when this one is full.
Alis girls
2 flies and a wasp so far caught - I wont be happy if it doesnt catch the 20.000 it said it would
batcatz
mine have caught loads of flies now. I think it would also work with mince, tuna or any cat food/dog food of that consistency. When they stink I am going to throw them away and make new ones. Hope it works for you too.
Guest
I will try this thanks. But i think it would be great in this weather if everyone just planted 50 fly catcher plants and that would be fine.
tara
If you put coke in the bottles it works wonders and catches loads.
Roobaloo
My dad does this as a wasp catcher...but obviously with something sweet and strong smelling (jams, syrups...cola does work perfectly)...they work fantastically well. I used to feel bad about this kind of trap (I don't like causing suffering to living creatures) but at the end of the summer, 'worker' wasps get sealed out the nest and left to die (which is when humans start having problems with them...we have sugary food and they're desperately hungry) so at least this way, they have one hell of a last meal before they die! Chook n Boo Mum
Havent got a homemade one but my flitrap is doing well - YS is delighted as hes fly phobic. My only grouse is the literatiure with it says you should have 2 satchets of smelly stuff - I've only got one and they dont answer the phone. I will threaten with trading standards if they dont improve things. I like to get what I expect stroppy cow me I didn't have this problem last year when my muppet Lab ate all the extra smelly stuff I received as part of a special offer ..oooo she was vile for a few days ....Andy sent spares to me by return & was thoroughly charming..........have you tried emailing, if I remember correctly, he was working full time as well, though I'd have thought he'd have an answerphone & get back to you ASAP.............. I discovered my reusable bottle.......eeeeewww emptying them is not a job to do on a full stomach ......in the ash of a bonfire built by a friend, so I've made some new bottles as above & just stuck the fishy stuff inside......still revolting & not working as well as they did last year, but give it a few days at this temp & they'll be filling up nicely Sha x
kissinuk
Chicken poop and dead fish?? Thanks for the tip but think I'll stick the the flitrap (and that really does stink when it gets going!).
Chook n Boo Mum
The flitrap stuff is made from dead fish bits imported from godknowswhere .........I had to phone Andy to make sure there was nothing poisonous in it that would harm my greedy dog Have you not noticed it has an air of pungent fishfood about it..............or maybe he's changed the recipe Sha x
