Well, my hooond, who has the constitution of an ox, is a bit poorly; I was up with her most of last night while she had diarrhoea and (latterly) was sick. I think I had about 3 hours sleep in all

She seemed OK this morning and we went for a short walk, she did a couple of very watery poos but hasn't been sick since. I've put some Avipro in her water (probiotic) and added some tree barks powder to plain brow rice. She's hardly eaten anything but has had some water. I was dreading what I'd go home to at lunchtime, but no mess, although she did do a sloppy poo when I took her out.

It may have been something that she ate, lurchers are always scabbing stuff, but I can't recall seeing her eating anything she shouldn't. I'll keep an eye on her and check that she's not dehydrated.

Daft hound

Thanks :D

Rosie reported when she got in from school - dog quiet but otherwise OK, no mess in the kitchen. I will check on her when I get in and make her some boiled rice and scrambled egg.

I ended up sleeping on the sofa most of last night so that I didn't have so far to go when she needed to go out. She's very good and won't mess indoors, nor in her crate.

:( Hope she is better Clare - was meaning to post last week re. this  , but got distracted. So will sort of hijack your thread if thats ok.

Last week a few dogs local to me who walk a route close to farmers fields, became violently ill. Runs and sickness - one greyhound had to be taken into vets due to dehydration and overall illness. The culprit is thought to be FOX BAIT

Apparently the watery poo ends up being contagious - hence being dragged back and into the fox den and spreading.

Only one of the greyhounds was taken into the vets - £600 later  . But the other one and a bearded Collie managed to "get over" the worst at home :anxious:

I hope the hound is better Clare - but dog owners beware, if your dog is a rambler and near to farm land, they may just be tempted to eat some fox bait, and this will make them VERY ill :talk2hand:

Thanks SarahJo, we do 'walk wild' a lot, but hadn't in the 24 hours before she came down with it - it had been at the back of my mind. I think it's just a case of scabbing one time too many - not that she's likely to learn from it.

She seem happier tonight and actually gto up to greet me when I came in, which she hadn't done at lunchtime. I'll keep her on plain food fro the nest 24 hours and make sure she has plenty of water + Avipro.

Thanks for your kind wishes, and here's to a better night's sleep tonight :?

 Fingers crossed - they do pick up allsorts, and this was the 1st time in 12 years ( OMG I feel old ) of living here that I had heard the other dog walkers mention fox bait via the vet. :(

Tori does not venture much - bit of a wuss really, so generally stays in sight. The more venturous dogs have fallen foul of the fox bait - which is why I thought it worthy of a mention

Bland food and plenty of water is all you can really do and is the best - till she becomes more "solid"

Good vibes for you and Rubes

Can't dogs be terrible? My parents' ageing Jack Russell X is a devil for snaffling any old cagmag he finds on the street. Left over fast food and snacks, chewing gum, a couple of pork chops once (what a find!) but his favourite is definitely how shall we put it, ripe carcasses (birds, rabbits etc found whilst roaming off the lead) :vom: He also has a pretty tough constitution but every so often his food choices do disagree with him!

Thanks for the wishes guys - she's a lot better this morning, rumbly tum and tried a bit of breakfast after the plain rice and mashed up hard-boiled egg that she had last night. Still not up to par, but a lot better.

No poos this morning, but I think that she emptied herself out yesterday  Hounds have no fat reserves, so can go downhill very quickly, but she's kept hydrated and good old Avipro has helped.

Well, the hooond relapsed the other day but is back on the Prodexin tabs and much better this morning. It's little surprise though; people leave half-finished takeaways and other rubbish in our local park and she'll scab it before I get a chance to call her off  Normally she has a cast iron stomach though, so im ust have been something vile.

Poor ruby - I hope she's feeling better now!

Candy was poorly while we were away, but I think it was all the sea water that she drank. Especially when she threw it all back up again in the middle of the tent :vom::vom: (luckily it was hot so we hadn't put the groundsheet down 8) )

I know, I reckon it must've been some manky kebab that she scrounged

I now walk her with her puffer collar on so that I can puff her if she starts to scavenge again.

She has a course of Noroclav to try and clear whatever bacteria it is. Back on the brown rice and hard boiled egg too!
