Dolly
Hi everyone It's becoming apparent very quickly that Roxy wants to go outside with her friends and NOW!! She was quite agitated this afternoon and I think keeping her in may be doing more harm than good as she keeps trying to jump at the walls to get out. So to keep her separate and safe from her friends, can anyone help me with eglu hire for a few weeks? I'm in the Gloucestershire/Worcestershire area and if I could collect tomorrow that would be brilliant. I'd be very grateful, and so would Roxy! Thanks
Hens@HalfMoonLane
Great news and how lovely of your vet to keep such a watchful eye over her.
Chook n Boo Mum
Dolly try posting a message in the "wanted" section......& add a note explaining you've posted there to get a better chance of finding a temporary home for Roxy............I'd also post on Freecycle for an unused rabbit hutch or teachest which could be adapted "heath robinson" style with a roll of weldmesh from an equine/animal/farm type shop.....just a few rambling thoughts........good luck Sha x

Dolly
After a mad dash to the brilliant Cotswold Chickens in Oxfordshire, Roxy is safely in her own eglu in the garden near her friends . My DH suggested we buy another eglu as "it could always be sold on when we no longer need it" - he never fails to amaze me, and is obviously more soft than he cares to admit! There was quite a lot of shouting and raised hackles from Roxy's 'friend' who is top chick and from Roxy herself when they saw each other, so sadly after less than 3 days away they've forgotten they were close friends I've no idea what it will be like when they meet each other face to face in the coming weeks, but we'll take it very slowly. Has anyone else any similar experience with reintroducing a hen with an obvious change/deformity in her anatomy? I'm worried that they'll go straight for her beak and cause more damage. Thanks for listening to me ramble on, but it really helps to know I'm not the only mad chicken mum!

johnandkymberley
well if you are a mad chicken mum, i must be too! my girls mean the world to me and not one day (even if its a poo day) i wouldnt be without! i would take the inro slowly, as you said and watch out for any pecking, i introduced my white stars into a flock of five and used some anti-pek spray after two applications they were fine and its totally safe for use on the hens head and "quiff" etc (as we call it!) I put loads and feeders and drinkers out so my other hens didnt feel threatened (apprently that is why they peck when i new hen comes into the group) asnd especially if Roxy is taking abit longer to eat and drink she will appreciate the extra food! Let us know how we get on and send us a pic!!! xxxxx

Leicester_H
So glad to hear the good news !! Can you name the excellent vet and practice ? - s/he deserves a medal (maybe we could have an Omlet equivalent to the Good Egg awards for this sort of exceptional qaulity of care ?) The Dogmother
Hi Marie, so sorry to have missed this; I've not had a lot of forum time lately. I'm glad that Jude came up trumps for you and had one that you could take straight away. If I'd known you were in the are at the weekend, you could have come to see the chickies. Roxy was always my favourite too, wish her a speedy recovery from me.
