BeckyBoo
Hi, my nearly 8 year old cut her leg very badly this evening, needed 8 stitches the poor little thing, it's on her lower leg and will scar as it was very big and very deep. I know it's too early to apply anything but wondered if you knowledgeable peeps knew what would be the best thing to apply after it has healed. I don't care what it costs (within reason!) I just want to minimise the scarring Thanks BeckyBoo
Paola
Vitamin E oil is meant to be very good for reducing scars. You used to be able to buy it at the body shop. I have known people to swear by it. Poor thing
Egluntyne
Bio Oil is supposed to be very good. Poor little girl.
Seagazer
I was also going to suggest Bio-Oil, I think they recommend it for scarring. Poor little thing. I hope it doesn't cause her too many problems.
ClaireG
Lavender oil is also good.
scarlettohara
Bio oil is brilliant (8.95 for small bottle but it lasts for ages) - a friend used it after an injury to her forehead her scar hardly shows now I use it too for cuts/scratches from gardening and they seem to heal much quicker. Chucky Mama
I am using Bio Oil at the moment for some superficial scarring - there is no thickening to the skin. I have dark skin which scars easily. I think it is fading but of course it is difficult to access what is down to the oil and what is down to time. The small bottle goes on forever, I initially thought it was expensive but that was for the large bottle which would last a lifetime. I guess that if it scars really badly and she is really unhappy you could think about plastic surgery although it would be costly and some degree of scaring may remain. whoopsie
Poor love I hope she'll feel better soon. I'm with the Bio Oil camp here. I would also suggest some arnica tablets to aid healing from the inside.
stoice
I had my forehead split open by a golf ball (Long story, Boyfriend did it by accident and was mortified! - We've both given up golf now) anyway, after the superglue and steristrips came off, they didn't stitch me, I looked around for solutions to any scarring. I used Palmers scar serum and patches of silicone sheeting. The serum was a bit pricy, not sure it worked all that well, but i rubbed it in a few times a day and placed the sheets on my scar on my forehead over night. They can slide off a bit, especially as i have oily skin, so i stuck them on with an extra plaster. Seemed to do the trick as now the scar is just a hairline (And a bit of a dent! LOL) Serum - i got mine at superdrug similar silicone sheets - i got mine from boots i think
paddy1709
I am in the bio oil camp as well!
The Dogmother
I tried Heal Gel, but it didn't make the slightest difference. Bio Oil is pretty good though. Being young, if you get it quickly, she ought to heal without too much of a scar.
Aunty e
If you can get some arnica that will help - I took the little pillules that you can buy in holland and barrett and they really helped me heal up after Mog was born. My mum works for a set of surgeons, and for post-operative scarring they say it's not so much what you put on it, as making sure that you keep on massaging something into it as it's the stimulation from the massaging action that encourages good healing. Janty
I used to use vitamin e cream but you have to buy a high concentration cream from a good health food shop for it to make any difference. You can't just buy a normal Body Shop normal concentration cream. This was the recommendation of the plastic surgeon at the hospital. Considering my cut went through several layers of my face and head and took about 100 stitches I don't suppose it's healed badly so there must be something in it. I now use bio-oil and I'm finding that ok as well.
The Dogmother
I noticed in the paper today that Bio Oil is half price at Lloyds Pharmacies.

TheGirlsMum
When I had my accident nearly 18 years ago now the recommendation was Nivea cream and they took me up to see the burns ward for advice and that is what they were advicing there too and my facial scars are all but invisible now. hope she's feeling ok in herself. The Dogmother
Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream was originally developed for use on burns, it might work on scars too.
Aunty e
If you want to try Bio oil, I have most of a bottle left - I bought it to use on stretchmarks and didn't like the smell, I'd be happy to post it to you if you PM me your address.
