susanbb
Really enjoyed the show. Gavin just looks so awkward at times. It's hard to believe that he is just so painfully shy. Wonder if they'll take him to drama classes if he stays in tonight.
Griffin
From the Daily Mail: A Strictly Come Dancing spokeswoman confirmed: ‘Brendan Cole's father has passed away and Brendan has gone back to New Zealand to be with his family. ‘Michelle Williams will continue on Strictly Come Dancing and will be partnered with Ian Waite for this weeks show until Brendan returns the following week. Our thoughts are with Brendan and his family.’
CallyChook
Awww, poor little rebel Brendan. But Iam Waite instead... what a treat he's such a hottie in my book, all tall and lithe So who do you want to go tonight? Personally I want Peter shilton out, but will be happy so long as kara, pamela, matt and scott stay in.
Couperwife
good grief, strictly seems to be plagued by bad news at the moment doesnt it 2 family deaths and one case of Chicken Pox. and only a few weeks in I hope bad things come in 3's and there are no more (ive probably missed loads more though ) cathy x

Seagazer
That's sad about Brendan's father, I thought Ann did well considering her bad news this week. Yay - Ian will be back, do miss him and Matthew. I couldn't concentrate properly on the dancing and X Factor this week as DD had about 15 friends round watching X factor in the other room - it was like picadilly circus in here. From what I did see though I really, really enjoyed Matt's and Scott's quickstep. I do agree with Len though that Matt doesn't need all the silly stuff, he is such a good dancer. Pamela's rhumba was lovely and she did it so well but I didn't like her dress very much. I couldn't believe how bendy Felicity was but felt she lacked any connection with Vincent which was strange given that she's an actress. I was a bit upset for Patsy as her dance didn't go too well and she could suffer this week as probably Paul and Ann will be kept in again. Can't remember much else. CallyChook
au revoir Paul, once they got drawn against Michelle we knew he was a gonner as otherwise Michelle wouldn't have ever gotten to the point of needing a Brendan replacement!! Antique's roadshow, the perfect accompaniment to strictly
The Dogmother
I haven't seen it yet, but Paul is definitely the best one to go - that man is sooo irritating.
Chickendoodle
I thought Pamela was truly amazing. Her Rumba actually brought a tear to my eye. It is so difficult I think for an older woman to do a rumba with a younger man without looking ridiculous (remember Esther Rantzen ) Or is it rhumba? Loads of contenders at the moment I think for top slot. Once Peter & Michelle have gone it's anyone's for the taking. I think Anne will go in the middle of the competition as it will take it's natural course and once Gavin becomes less self conscious he may be OK. I wouldn't vote for Anne but I have no objection to her being kept in as she is very entertaining and she is trying to do it properly. Very glad that Paul Daniels has gone. Would love Pamela to make the final as we have never had an older contestant get very far. I think that this is the best line up the show has had for some years but I did prefer the results show later on Saturday rather than the separate Sunday show - we all know it is filmed on Saturday. The Sunday show is a load of nothing really with very drawn out results.
..lay a little egg for me
I agree re Sunday show about 5 minutes of actual good telly and 25 minutes of padding! I recorded and fast forwarded through all the dross!
CallyChook
Lesley Garrett came third in the very first series, she was really good and danced with Anton - so there have been some older people do well although admittedly not as many. Pamela is amazing this year and she has so many talents from comedy through dancing to being a professional! The sunday show - if the celebrity performer is someone I want to see then I don't mind the padding - but so far, Robbie Williams and Peter Andre, I'm afraid both make me cringe. Chickendoodle
Lesley Garrett came third in the very first series, she was really good and danced with Anton - so there have been some older people I don't class Lesley Garrett as being "older" as she is younger than me Pamela Stevenson however is 10 years older than me so she qualifies in my book! I think Lesley Garrett was early 40's whan she competed which makes her youngish from my side of 50. Now I feel really old!
CallyChook
is that really all she is? she looked mid fifties to me.... my mum is 49 and I consider her young still. whoops!
chickencam
I felt that the right person went out last night. I think that Peter or Michelle will be next. Brendan didn't look happy during the results show, I wonder if he had already heard his sad news, poor man. I wasn't sure about Pamela until Saturday when her Rhumba had us all spellbound, she is such a positive force for older women, as is Felicity. I am going to take up both yoga and pilates. I have 20 years to get bendy The show dance with Flavia last night was a bit What wasn't she wearing and it was all very odd. there were some amazing lifts and throws though. Peter Andre made the X factor contestants look proffesional, how to mime very badly and not know the words to your own song.
Chickendoodle
I stand corrected - just googled Lesley Garrett and she was born in 1955 which made her 49 when she competed in Strictly - still not an old contestant really as Pamela is 60 or 61? CallyChook
Felicity was born in 1946 too, and what fabulous bendiness! I can;t bend like that even minus bump!
chickencam
She is the same age as my mum then, although she looks pretty good for her age, I can't imagine her bending around like that Off to see if you can get pilates and yoga for the Wii. The Dogmother
is that really all she is? she looked mid fifties to me.... my mum is 49 and I consider her young still. whoops! Two years older than me... I don't know how young you are, but you could probably (theoretically) be my child.... and I could be a grandma!!!! CallyChook
lol Claret, I'm 28, will be 29 in less than a fortnight though (I'm a witchy halloween baby). My mum was 20 when she had me after getting married at 17. I'm already a great aunty though - thanks to hubby's step sister getting pregnant age 12, and the resulting child now being 20 with a coming-up-to-3yr old of her own! I have to say I felt old when I was in hospital in July (pancreatitis). I was on the maternity ward as they weren't sure that my placenta hadn't ruptured away from the wall of my uterus, and my bed-mates were 16, 17 and 21 respectively!! The Dogmother
A child bride then! I managed to catch up on some Strictly when I was having my lunch.... what is it with Aleesha's lipstick? It is truly awful. Shilton managed to pick himself up off the bottom, but needs to use his core muscles to hold himself more upright. Michelle needs to relax and let go - she's too tightly wound and 'in control' to dance well. There was some beautiful dancing from both Scott and Pamela amongst others. alas, Paul was truly bad, and Gavin is so emotionally retentive that he lacks expression of any kind. Ann Widdecombe had a really good go at it and poor Anton is at risk from those bosoms of hers! Boy did I laugh at them though Some really good dancing and great entertainment this week. CallyChook
I totally have to disagree about that lipstick... there is much jealousy going on between my skinny little cold-sore-prone pair and Alesha Dixon's gorgeously shiny pout!! Have to agree about everything else though, and I find it really irritating that Peter thinks he can actually dance well!! hahaha!!!
The Dogmother
But the colour was totally wrong for her - my skin has an olive cast to it, but not as dark as hers - that bright pink doesn't work for me either. She's a gorgeous girl.. but in other hues!
Plum
So what did you think of Flavia's tango with the men. I was very dissapointed it was all gymnastics and not sexy.
Woodcat
So what did you think of Flavia's tango with the men. I was very dissapointed it was all gymnastics and not sexy. I thought it was really strange. The beginning was more strictly does bondage than anything else. Why don't they forget all these gimmicky things and just dance. i think I'm a traditionalist like Len.

As my mum pointed out, it was a bit like a maypole dance with a human maypole in the middle Actually a maypole dance might have been more entertaining
