Chicken shack
My girls cuddle up in the nesting box at night and make it quite messy. Should I block the hole up at night to prevent this? Sorry but I am still new to all this and have lots of questions.
Patricia W
If it bothers you, put a football, or a plant pot in the nesting box. I'm a softie and let them and poo pick in the morning Tricia
Purplemaniacs
Two of my girls sleep in the nestbox. I put easibed in it and in the morning I just poo pick, it only takes a couple of moments. In the past I have tried to stop them by blocking it off but if I forgot they were in there, I think they must be comfy in the nest box so I don't mind. sparkysmum
The nesting box is my old ex batt's favourite place to sleep. No chance of chucking her out Let sleeping chicks lie
Stedic
I was going to stop mine sleeping in their cube nest box this week - I'm sick of changing the Easibed! But when I went down there today there was no poo in there at all, despite it not being changed for 5 days (been working during daylight hours all week, OH collecting eggs). So it seems they've spontaneously stopped after 6 weeks of doing it in the Classic and laterly the cube. The only thing I can think of is that I was running low on Easibed last time so there was only a very thin layer in there - perhaps that kept it a bit cooler and less comfortable? bucklamp
Hmm, one of ours is laying very early at the moment, before we open the coop at about 7am so we couldn't really stop access to the nesting box.
Cranfield Kate
my older ex batts always slept in the nesting box. I just poo pick - it's part of the routine and doesn't bother me. it's actually quite handy to be able to keep an eye on what their poos are like (I need to get out more) to check for worms and weirdness. chickenopolis
Now you see, I do that as well. Do you, when "inspecting the poo", talk to yourself along the lines of "oh that's a nice one", or "blimey you had a lot of grass yesterday"??? No...????? I'll get my coat.....
