Cinnamon
My 14 year old daughter has decided that the Emo look is for her. So, we have reams of thick black eyeliner, the skinniest black jeans you have ever seen, skull earrings, chipped black nail varnish and.....worse of all.......she want to dye her gorgeous long blonde hair black Despite the fact that she had it highlighted as a birthday pressie only 4 weeks ago Also she has informed me that when we go to Kos in 3 weeks she will not be coming out into the sun EVER. Can't see that happening myself, one look at the pool & it will be bikini time
The Dogmother
Oh dear, and she's such a pretty girl too There were a couple of goth kids when we were on holiday, studiously avoiding the sun, remaining fully clothed and mad up at all times Don't worry, Sarah, she'll crack when she wants to go swimming! Sarah71
Warning- She'll probably grow out of it but then again I'm 36 and still goth/emo, a tamed goth but still a 36 year old goth with black spiky hair and black clothes but I do go out in the sun
Egluntyne
Oh dear, and she's such a pretty girl too There were a couple of goth kids when we were on holiday, studiously avoiding the sun, remaining fully clothed and mad up at all times Don't worry, Sarah, she'll crack when she wants to go swimming! Keep telling youself that it is just a phase and that she will grow out of it. Just be thankful that she doesn't want a body piercing or a tattoo. (Speaking as the mother of a daughter who had her navel pierced ...her laparoscopic appendicectomy got rid if that ...and a son who came home with SUFC tattoed on his leg) At least hair dye grows out and if she avoids the sun she won't get damaged by it! One way of stopping your children from doing something drastic is to do it yourself. The one thing they don't want to be is a clone of you! You'd look great as a goth Cinnamon! The Dogmother
I'm not looking forward to Rosie being a teenager - I was totally wild and drove my parents demented, but at the moment, she's Little Miss Modesty.
bronze
She'll either grow out of it or itll tame down over time. Does Egluntines theory mean that my three will never have piercings or tattoos because I have them?
Cinnamon
Funnily enough I wouldn't mind a tummy peircing as I think they look cute, but shes a bit young yet. She want to try a wash-in-wash-out black hair dye BUT she is very blonde & I remember at school there being a free Shaders & Toners in Rich Mahogony on the frount of Just 17 & everyone used it including a girl with very blonde hair.It never did was out, just sort of faded to a pale pinkish red over time Annoyingly black hair would probably suit her,as she is fair with bright blue eyes. I reckon she will take one look at the pool & the boys around it & will crack like you say.Off with the black,on with the bikini & factor 30 before you can say My Chemical Romance

Guest
Sarah that is what I dread with Jules She is so blonde and fair skinned She really likes that sort of music so I think it may be a possibility I don't mind other colours but not black or piercings or tattoos I remember my hair once being the most gorgeous shade of blue my mum did not approve
Guest
I have a friend who approves whole-heartedly of everything outrageous her teenage boys say they're going to buy/do. 'Oh yes', she says. 'What a good idea - I'm going to get one too!' Soon puts them off!
ubereglu
I was just going to suggest using Wash in Wash out. It won't come out the first time, but it will after about 3-4 washes as she's very blonde. I know this, because my friend did the same thing!
Paola
Am I the only person here who does not know what an Emo is?
Lesley
No Paola - you're not I know what a Goth is - and I assume that they're similar (I thought it was my age - what's your excuse? )
Mrs Frugal
I don't know either .
Egluntyne
Just googled it. Answer here. Its a subsect of goths and "emo" is short for emotional

Lesley-Jean
Just googled it. Answer here. Its a subsect of goths and "emo" is short for emotional Interesting article Eglutine ! I'd be concerned about the self harm aspect though
AnnieP
I thought maybe Emo Phillips had suddenly become trendy... Now, THAT'S a cool look!
chocchick
Now I don't understand again I was going to say how good it was Cinnamon's daughter was just rebelling through clothes and hair, now I'm terrified by emos after hearing about them I'm sure she's just an ordinary "balanced" well brought up goth and has to rebel somehow. It's all about image. It is quite feminine at least and some of the clothes/fabrics are gorgeous. OH calls goths non-conformist conformists as they all rebel by wearing the same goth clothes
Guest
I used to be a goth - black hair, black clothes, black lipstick, heavy eyeliner, the lot!
bronze
I had to look it up after a conversation not long ago. It made me feel old I was a mild Goth
Cinnamon
I thought maybe Emo Phillips had suddenly become trendy... Now, THAT'S a cool look! I remember him - he was so great He's quite important in the movie world now,& is doing rather well for himself. He produced the "Meet The Parents" films (useful to know for the forum quiz ) I think the Emo is just a modern day version of the Goth. Yes,it has its dark side like the self harm (which Devon is very scathing about), but the clothes are good & the boys are divine. All that pale skin, floppy fringe & eyeliner takes me back to my New Romantic youth This is Gerard from My Chemical Romance, who graces the daughters bedroom wall & who is responsible for me taking a long time tidying up her mess every morning
OH
You are all wrong. The Elmo look is like this; Now if a daughter of mine came home dressed like this I would be seriously worried.
