chocchick
I came back from shopping with OH, started cleaning out the chickens, and out of the blue OH says, I've been thinking of getting a roomba. After establishing it is not a drum (sounded like rhumba) it turns out it is a vacuuming robot. http://www.irobot.com/sp.cfm?pageid=124 Where does he get these random ideas? theherd123
Look interesting choccy maybe the chickens could take a ride on it!
bronze
It avoids stairs - I hate vacuuming them too but I would have thought buying a machine to do the jobs you hate should solve that. And I bet it doesnt move the furniture. Basically its been designed by a man to do man style vacuuming
chocchick
It avoids stairs - I hate vacuuming them too but I would have thought buying a machine to do the jobs you hate should solve that. And I bet it doesnt move the furniture. Basically its been designed by a man to do man style vacuuming I did ask if it could fly up the stairs like a dalek, but it can't and what if you drop something that needs vacuuming up? I said it seems like a bit of a gimmick, and it would just play dodgems with the furniture, but OH thinks it is a useful gimmick as our existing vac is held together with tape
ali-s
What a great idea At work I look after the junior schools dining room which is carpeted Three times a day 115 8 to 13 year olds come and litter the carpet with food, grass cuttings (from outside) and in the winter the grit put down to melt the ice. I have to vaccum the carpet twice a day which takes 35 minutes a go. Twice a week the carpet is shampooed which takes another 45 minutes. My boss will be getting the web site address tomorrow I would be able to put the chairs on top of the tables and let the robot do its stuff
BeckyBoo
OMG!!! How much hoovering? I have to hoover once a day or my house looks like the bottom of a litter tray (3 kdis! say no more) I hope he pays you lots and LOTS of money, because (apart frmo ironing) that would be my idea of hell!! DEFINITELY give your boss the website, then sit back, feet up, cup of tea and a biccy! Mrs B
chocchick
Sounds useful for a big flat area, good luck
mountainboarddude
it sounds like a good idea, but it is round, so if it had to clean a square corner, it would not be able to.
chocchick
It has this little brush that comes out of the side in the demo. Actually I said to OH it wouldn't vaccuum around edges like round the CD rack, and he said, well we don't really do that anyway...
Louise
I could see it being complementary to a standard vacuum Leave it to do most of the work and then coming in to just finish off under furniture and into corners How much do they cost
chocchick
$150 upwards (American site). OH said it wouldn't cost much (although his money).
Karen & co.
I must admit I fancy the idea of leaving it to it when we go out trouble is I don't want to choke it to death with dog hair karen x
Louise
I liked that thought too Karen, my cats drag in so much dirt when I am not there it would be nice to leave it to police them and clear up so I don't come home to an explosion in a feather factory if one of them catches a bird
Happy-Mama
Sounds fantastic, in the demo it even goes under the couch. Though what does it do when it needs emptying i.e. how do you know it's full? Now if they could just invent a robot do to the ironing too
lizinsa
My brother has one and LOVES it! Think they're great for city pads but not sure if they could cope with the strains of dog and cat hair! You can also get one that washes floors, so hopefully a robot that can do all the housework should be along soon!
ali-s
I found one on a uk site for £136.99. Printed a copy and took it into work today to show my boss. He said NO Then he changed his mind and said yes as long as I put in my resignation I was tempted
Guest
They look really small though. Where do they put all the hoovered up stuff? And if the hoovered up stuff can be so compact, why do we use enormous machines?
Happy-Mama
Does it have a bag or is it bagless like the dyson (can't find the info online)? It does sound fantastic, especially programming it to do the hoovering when your out
chocchick
I think they are bigger than they look Oh thought we should get a pet one as I lose/drop hair everywhere
Guest
There are 4 of us here with long thick hair. It is a real problem, but I find Crocs are brilliant at s"Ooops, word censored!"ing the hair off the carpet. Much better than anything else! thehallfamily
Hi I have a Roomba had it about 2 years and its great, but would not be without my Miele as well. Roombas are great for a quick sweep and do a good job, but can't do stairs!! I have 3 boys and it copes well. I also have a Scooba the mopping version, but I can only use it on my Amtico floor as it gets the laminate too wet! Just one word of warning if you import one from the States you will have duty to pay and the voltage is wrong on the charger. Much safer to buy in the UK with a CE mark!! How do I know, erm well my hubby sells them, and Robotic lawnmowers oops!! Angela
chocchick
Robotic lawnmowers now you're talking OH said they were about £500 though Does your OH sell roomba ones? Is there a UK site? I think OH has his sources for some computery items in the US through work
