Gutted. I have lost a chicken! **Updated

Recommended Posts

I left my run door open today by mistake. I returned from work to find all he chooks locked out as the automatic pop hole was shut. Even worse one of my hens, Daphne the Dorking, is missing :(

I have searched the garden and not a sign of her. I have checked next doors garden and no joy. I hope she is roosting somewhere safe. Other than have another look in the morning, I have no idea what else to do.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that she's roosting somewhere safe. I lost my favourite little Poland cockerel a couple of weeks ago. He jumped over/through the electric fence while I was at work and there was no sign of him when I got home after night. I was sure he'd been eaten and I had a nervous night worrying about him. It was -6 overnight and next morning I heard him very quietly crowing next door. I retrieved him and he was none the worse for his adventure after some warm weetabix!

Here's hoping your girly returns in the morning.

One of mine once went missing. I was calling them in to put them to bed one evening and they all turned up except Ruby. Me and my OH searched for her for quite some time but she was nowhere to be seen. Then 10 am the next morning she was stood outside the hen house squawking to be let in, as soon as the door was opened she ran straight to the nest box to lay an egg  ( I waited while she finished before she got a telling off :shameonu: )

I hope she's turned up today  .

Thank you for all your kind thoughts & wishes.

I woke up with a heavy heart this morning. As the sun started to rise over the horizon I prepared the chooks feed in the utility room and opened the back door, and there, sat on the doorstep, looking as though butter wouldn't melt in her beak was Daphne  She was clucking away, ready for her breakfast. She ran down the garden, did a circuit of the chicken run and then ran in to the run, just as the others were popping out of the pop hole!

She has not let on where she had been all night, the dirty stop-out, but she seemed in high spirits!

And she was the only one to lay an egg today too.

An experience I hope not to be repeated :D
