jill the potter
As I know you all like piccies - thought you might like to see one of my girls at the back door. I had let them have the run of the whole garden but they spent most of the time on the step pecking at the door!!! Don't you just love them? p.s. does anyone else think the two on the left have abnormally large combs?
gongladosh
nice! One of mine has a comb that big - it's funny, I know plenty of non-hen owners who reckon that combs that mean that the bird is male (which wouldn't explain the eggs !) Those two aren't the top hen and 'henchman' are they, just out of interest?
jill the potter
No, Tikka the dark one is - we've had her the longest. The other two we only got in August. Was a bit worried about the combs in case they were cockerels, but they have both started laying so Notice you're in Manchester too!

She was top chook of the trio when I got them but whether she is now... possibly top ex batt Peridot has held onto that position. P

Poached Egg
Ahhh our girls used to do that until we got trellis up to keep the poos off the patio and plants in their pots. Snowy still has a bit of a bad patio habit though and is let down by the others obviously gawping and their poor lookout abilities. Heidi was on lookout from the top of the trelliis the other day and I swear she was ducking her head behind a 2" pole so we wouldn't see her

They don't normally have all of the garden to FR in but I felt sorry for them as their patch of land is like The Somme That'll teach me eh? Calamity Jane
My three do that too, not sure what is going to happen in the warmer weather as when I left the door open the other day two of them decided to come in and investigate my breakfast room !! My little lurcher just looked on and watched them peck at her dinner bowl. I shall have to train her to shoo them out or else put up a stair gate !! Does look daft when we have no children in the house - but stops a lot of chicken mess all over the carpet!!
