No cabbage soup traits I love cauliflower but don't like the smell of that boiling. I'm also with all of you on the yukky smells from most airfreshners. The smell of new car interiors and foam have a similar effect... as do Max Factor products!! Ooh, I could go on & on! Most perfumes make me feel nauseous- I can only wear Clarins Eau Dynamisante- any thing else gives me a terrible headache. Then there's petrol, fish counters, pernod ........... DD bought a huge boxful of things for Christmas - it was undetectable while it had been boxed and wrapped, but the moment it was opened it made the house stink - they were moved into the garage. DS uses the Lynx that smells of chocolate. We all like that one. OH has the Africa one. 4711! Reminds me of hot summer days and mum telling me to dab it on because it's refreshing. Iloved 4711 too my mum used to put it on my temples at night in hot summers. Remember when everyone wore body shop white musk? or was that just me? Alos there was a phase when every one bought Giorgio of Beverly Hills they even sold smell a like cheaper versions. A lady walked past me the other day and she was wearing something sooo familiar but couldnt work it out? but brought me right back to being at college and I'm sure I had what ever it was she was wearing! When I was pregnant my sense of smell was heightened greatly! and one of my worst cravings was to sniff the hoover bag! (before we had a cyclone one!) I just couldnt get enough I also loved shoe polish for sniffing but stopped that one as thought the fumes might not be too good for the bump. funny to think I was asthmatic and drawn to sniff the hoover bag! mind you I also had to crunch ice cubes every single night on both pregnancies Other fave smells are petrol diesel Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Perhaps we should have a nice smelly thread because there's so many. Also a lot of perfumes that I used to like on other people are totally different on me. Chickendoodle Posted February 1, 2011 Share Posted February 1, 2011 My Mum boiled breast of lamb for our dog every week.(This was in the 1960's before there was much good dog food) Boiling lamb fat Haven't smelled 4711 for years but my Mum used to dab it behind her ears as well. I am sure I would recognise it straight away. Smells evoke such memories. I worked in the Christies factory for 4 weeks as a summer job where they made Christies lanolin (don't think you can get it any more) but one whiff of that used to send me right back there. Johnsons baby lotion and play doh transport me to when my girls were little (plus lots of other less delightful odours!) And the smell of My Little Ponies (if you had girls in the 1980's you will know what I mean) One horrible one - washed up seaweed - pooo! The saying was that if the coffee smell was very strong and lingered then it would rain either that night or the following day. That used to smell horrible because I didn't like coffee when I was little. But as I'm now an old fogey with different tastes I drink coffee very strong now, I quite like the smell. As a student I went out with a beer mad guy from Streatley and we used to go to Henley quite a lot In 1823 Henley-on-Thames was home to at least 12 maltsters and so far, historians have discovered 42 malt houses within the town's boundary. She backed on to the factory and worked there. Lots of choccy bars and seconds from the boxed goodies I used to have every birthday (my chocoholism fuelled by nan!). chickencam Posted February 2, 2011 Share Posted February 2, 2011 For the first few years that we lived in Cheltenham there was a brewery here and I hated the smell that came from it When I worked in Boots there was a down market Indian restaurant next door at the back of the shop and we used to get really horrible stale curry smells all the time, it was particularly bad in the pharmacy section where I worked because that was at the back of the shop. I hated it when I was pregnant with my ED, but amazingly I still love good curry Unfortunately I really don't like the smell of dogs, I would love to have a dog, because I like them as creatures, but I just couldn't live with the smell Having said that cats can produce some pretty awful smells at times too, but I don't mind the smell of them themselves.
