Storage ideas for bedding needed.

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any cheap ideas for storing bedding? I've been looking at blanket boxes but they're all pretty expensive. I normally store all our spare bedding in the airing cupboard but the house we're moving to doesn't have one. I need to store 2-3 sets each of superking size, double and single bedding.

I store my spare linen in an old Lloyd Loom ottoman in my bedroom. It was my great grandmothers so was free of course, but I've bought several others for keeping nappies etc in in charity shops and scruffy antique shops over the years for literally pounds. The nice thing about them is that you can repaint and recover the cushions incredibly easily to match the decorating in whatever room you put them in. The one in Mog's nursery has some particularly lovely Ikea fabric on it and it only took a staple gun and five minutes to do. I'm still annoyed with myself for not buying the newbaby one when I was in Sutton on Sea last summer, as the mad antiques shop there has hundreds out back...although I didn't know I was pregnant at the time, my sixth sense should have told me I'd need another ;)

Really Useful Boxes are great things, come in LOADS of different sizes and aren't expensive. Available from Argos or Staples, and no doubt other places too. They come in clear, colours, or black made from recycled plastic.

I use the 50 litre size - fits under most beds, but the 64 litre takes up the same floorspace and is just taller. There are even bigger ones to store stuff up in the loft. Highly recommended. :)

We don't have an airing cupboard either, but I do have a great blanket box which I use to store my bedding in.

The daughters bedding is in a box under her bed.

I do fold it all really well & store it in a pillowcase, so each set is easier to find & its all more compact.

I also have to John Lewis vacuum bags for new pillows & duvets, which go up in the loft until needed. Old ones just get chucked out or recycled these days!

It might be worth looking for a blanket box on eBay or asking on freegle.

You can search for items nearest to where you live so you can pick it up. There are a fair few under £50 on there :D
