Cinnamon
Stoopid me About 2 weeks ago I descaled my Tassimo machine, rinsed him through very thoroughly (once more than needed,in fact), scrubbed his water tank & refilled him. I had noticed that my coffee has been tasting a bit odd,but I thought that was down to a slight cold I have had affecting my taste buds. Had a coffee just now & had to chuck it away.....looked at said Tassimo & the water tank was full of white slimey MOULD That will obviously explain the odd tummy upsets I have been having then Two questions...why did the water go mouldy in the first place & what on earth can I do now to counteract the bad coffee I have just drank? Don't say the obvious...I am off to work now
Goosey Lucy
Oh no! But once again it backs up my don't clean theory! No idea why it went mouldy though, hope you're feeling better soon x
sari
ooohh poor you! I would recommend some good tummy bugs, like Yakults, or the capsules you buy from the Health Food shop that are stored in the Fridge, I take these after I have antibiotics, as I also have shocking IBS..and they seem to help. Mould though.....yuck....have you tried contacting the maker of your coffee machine?? HUgs x x
bluekarin
Theres not a lot about this on the net, but I found someone who has green algae in their water tank http://www.singleservecoffeeforums.com/post61921.html I think it would take me a long time not to feel like spewing
Christian
There is a single serve coffee forum??? Well I never. Hope you feel better soon Cinnamon. Yakult seems like a good idea. Or any bifidus digestivam, bifidus Danone (or other made up names for the same bacteria).
SarahJo
Does the water sit in a reservoir - not get plumbed in from the mains? Any water left like this will go stale after a couple of days - I always rinse and refill if the Gaggia has not been fired up for 2 days Even though the water comes through the coffee machines at high temp, its not at that temp for long enough , hence the bugs
Cinnamon
It was just water from my tap,but it has been through a water softener & it was out of salt,so maybe that has caused it? I survived work with nothing but a bit of a grumbly tum...I am hoping that I have drank so much of it that I am now immune That forum looks interesting, thanks for the link
sari
I can't believe that I backpacked round Gujurat for 8 weeks with no tummy probs, but a portion of cornflakes can make me feel rotten...hope you feel better soon x x Mint tea helps me, with fresh ginger and honey too, if you can stomach it! Geoid
It was just water from my tap,but it has been through a water softener & it was out of salt,so maybe that has caused it? Tap water is treated thoroughly (filtered more times than mineral water in fact) The spores that form the mould could have come from anywhere, they are in the air too. craftyhunnypie
Stagnant water, blimey watch out for Legionaires! It's a bit worrying - I'd phone the manufacturer, then I think I'd get rid of it. Makes you wonder about how clean the machines are in coffee shops. The Dogmother
I'd clean it out with Milton then rinse. If it was left closed up after descaling then that's when the mould would have taken hold, bit like if you close the door on a washing machine. Hope you're better soon
Cinnamon
No ill effects at all, thank goodness. I will get some Milton through it before I use it again, thats for sure!
WitchHazel
I have a Gaggia with a clear water tank which sits behind the machine. I've found green mould in that once, but that was because the sunlight is very strong in that part of the kitchen. I hadn't noticed before, because I'd got into the habit of filling the reservoir in situ using a jug, rather than taking the reservoir to the tap. A quck scrub and then soak in Milton sorted it out. Now, I always take the reservoir to the tap, so I can rinse it out before refilling, and I can watch for any problems. The white slimy mould you describe sounds really odd. I'm wondering if something maybe got into the reservoir after you descaled it (maybe something on a cloth?), and the mould grew on that? majorbloodnock
Well, if the reservoir's detachable, then why not use the standard mountain biker's strategy for cleaning back-pack reservoirs. Steradent. Take the reservoir, put it next to (or in) the kitchen sink, fill with warm water, drop a steradent tablet or two in and leave overnight. It's amazing how well it clears stuff off surfaces.
Cinnamon
It is detachable,so I will fill it with something & flush the entire tank through the machine on the cleaning cycle. That should do it It certainly wasn't sunlight induced,as its situated in a darkish corner in the kitchen, under the top units. There was no green at all, just thick white slime It tasted tangy rather than musty as I would expect mould to. I reckon it was something in the reservoir now too. The lid was on & clipped down well, but it only tales a teeny crumb or something, doesn't it? Ironic that it happened after a big clean & scale session really. Never had a problem before either,& its only used once a day,so a tank of water lasts a week, usually.

Old Speckled Hen
It was just water from my tap,but it has been through a water softener & it was out of salt,so maybe that has caused it? I thought you weren't supposed to drink water that had been through a salt softener So I googled it and you can You never used to be able to...............Things have obviously moved on.
