Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

I was just catching up on the Kate's frock thread, and would love to know what everyone wore to their own wedding!

 

We had a registry office do at Wandsworth Town Hall (actually very beautiful - flowers, tons of wood panelling and marble staircases, fountain outside in the courtyard). This was 1993, and I was 32 - I wore a coral coloured Louis Feraud suit, with a full pleated ankle length silk chiffon skirt , long slimline tailored jacket in the same colour over the top. cream silk shoes from Dolcis, and a cream silk hat from Freddie Fox, who was then the queen's milliner! the something borrowed was a cream silk vest from our best man's wife, and the something blue were diamond and sapphire ear rings lent by a very old friend.

 

I also got another skirt to match the jacket, which was a wrapover, straight style, and wore this skirt and the jacket to quite a few events afterwards - weddings, very smart work do's etc. never wore the shoes again tho, they killed me and had turned bright green from the grass!

I got married in a cream dress I managed to get online in a sale for about £50 - it was the only one I could get at short notice as I got married at Gretna Green and was 7 months pregnant. I wore cream suede strapless sandals from Dune. My something blue was thistles in the bouquet which also had white roses in it for my Yorkshire OH. My borrowed was a small broach.

 

A simple day I'd recommend to everyone.

We got married in 1996, I was 22 and wore the first dress I tried on! It was a big white wedding in church. I had fresh flowers in my hair which were gorgeous and actually dried beautifully when we were on honey moon (I still have them!)

A second hand Laura Ashley maternity frock that I bought for a fiver in Truro!.... I was nine months pregnant at the time...(always felt the registrar rushed through the service ) but thankfully my daughter waited for another couple of weeks before making her arrival

My dress was a big thing - all taffeta,puffs & pink embroidery.

I had a circlet of flowers in my hair,no veil & wore white satin ballet shoes (proper ones,bought from a ballet shop)

 

In my defence,it was the '80s!.

 

My bridesmaids were in simple dresses of pink & white pinstripes...very pretty.

1993 - and my mum was in the middle of chemo for breast cancer - I decided then that I didn;t want her to have to attend in a wheelchair (she wanted to be a big part) so bought wedding forward - hired a ivory dress (meringue type job think 4 weddings) and I am glad I did as I had 2 boys! so couldnt pass it on. Mums wedding dress was lovely but it wouldnt do up on me - she was obviously so much slimmer than me in the 1960;s. Hiring is a good way to keep costs down and unless you are really really going to wear it again then I would advise it to anyone. it was the 2nd one I tried on having picked several and rejected 1st and I told the woman " I want this one dont bother with the others"

Here is my wedding pic, it was Bath Registry office 1999. Me in a top made by a local lady and a second hand gold skirt, head dress and veil, gold sandals from Barretts. Hubby in hired suit and shoes, it was a bit of a shoestring wedding but we were (and still are) very happy

Pale pink long shift dress from Next or River Island I think which I'd bought 18 months earlier for about £25 in a sale long before we'd thought about getting married. I still have it but it's massively too big for me now. It was coupled with a blue silk style jacket from a work suit that I'd had for a couple of years, I also still have the jacket but it got ruined in the rain one day after the wedding. Shoes were grey and bought for £8, I've worn them twice since.

 

No flowers, no cars, no speeches and exactly the day we wanted at the time. Very simple wedding and I loved it.

I'll confess my MIL made the dresses and the waistcoats - and it was curtain material it was the only colour I liked!!!

 

The flowers were amazing, when I was in the hairdressers and they took them out, the flowers overpowered all the other smells. I was impressed as hairdressers always smell of hair spray and perms!

 

Like the pics - isn't it funny how the fashion changes even for brides! I love the gold Tasha.

aw, I love these! making me go all misty-eyed. none of our wedding pics are online (1993 was a long time ago!!) but you can see the different styles of wedding photography too - cinnamon's beautiful pic is a classic of it's time (not to knock it, but you would just know that was the 80s from the style!). our pics were all done by my fil and other friends - we had no money either; reception was in our half built house, we spent the week before painting the walls downstairs so it would look nice, but nothign on the floors apart from bare boards...

I also hired (long finely pleated cream skirt and matching jacket) and was also pregnant - nearly 7 months. My sister was my bridesmaid and wore a metallic silver trouser suit.

We had a registry office wedding then a reception at a hotel - but judging by some of the budgets I hear about we were a real shoestring job! My parents had saved up for our weddings so put some money towards our wedding and my sister and BIL's four years later.

We didn't have a honeymoon as we couldn't stretch to it, but for our tenth anniversary OH took me away for a weekend - I didnt know the destination until we were on the plane and the surprise was lovely!

This is mine, from 2006. A £250 bargain from Monsoon, but it was exactly what I wanted. Hat/fascinator was from John Lewis and (you can't see them) my shoes were cheapy gold sandals from Clarks.

It's our 20th wedding anniversary next week!

I wore a full length ivory dupion silk dress with embroidery and beadwork on the front. Originally, my MIL was going to make my dress, but I saw this one when looking for a dress for my sister who got married 3 months after me and loved it. It was miles too big, but in the sale and reduced from around £800 to £299. I'd wanted real flowers, but my mum secretly went and bought a bouquet and headress from the wedding dress shop, so we went along with that. They came in useful though as they were adapted and used when I was a bridesmaid at my sister's wedding. My shoes were flat ivory silk with gold fleur de lys embroidery on the front, that I found at a street market in Versailles the previous summer. They were an absolute bargain.

We got married at Newport (Monmouthshire) register office and had our reception at Caldicot Castle - my home town. We had vases of bluebells on all the tables, from my aunt and uncle's garden and stopped off in the afternoon at a nearby wood to take some photos amongst the bluebells.

My Mum made my first dress....I made my second, a simple cornflower blue shift dress, no photos.......and I also made my third (and last!!!) dress and jacket.....1997

Stan and I got Married in 2007.

 

 

I wore a Coast dress and a Ghost jacket

 

My "best girl" was my gorgeous daughter who stole the show with her speech afterwards.

 

 

 

We had a lovely reception at the local pub, the sun shone and we had a brass band on the lawn.

 

 

We danced till the early hours and weaved our way to our then home; a pretty rented cottage where my sisters in law and OHs daughters had put holly leaves and two scarecrows in our bed. We were too drunk to care simply tipping the contents out of the window into the street below.

 

One of my friends, an artist who was at the wedding, painted me a huge picture of the wedding which all the guests chipped in to buy for us.
