Cinnamon
I like the look of it,but I don't think it has 3G either, which is a pain for me & my patchy connections

Willow
Since there's often interesting kindle books temporarily free I wonder if we should start a thread to suggest/flag good free kindle books ?
Heathers Hens
Definitely buy! I have the 3G and would say go for this if you can, if you're anything like me theres never enough time to plan ahead for books before travelling, and i've always resorted to buying books in the airport before I had the Kindle. The beauty of the 3G is that you can download a sample from wherever you are and then decide whether to buy after you've read the first couple of chapters for free. I love my Kindle, and yes theres an internet browser but to be honest I use it purely for books. Heather
Chickendoodle
I have the 3G and would always recommend that you go for it - not so much for the fact that you can download books anywhere but so that you can read the book summary. The device has to connect to the Kindle store to show the summary. I download so many that I can't remember what the books are so I like to refresh my memory before I decide to read it. I used to spend £20-£30 a month on books. I know I still have the cost of the Kindle to re-coup but since I had it I have not bought a book costing more than £2 and most of them have been free. I reckon I will have broken even within 6 months and then I will be saving money. I have to be quite strict with myself as there are new books I am dying to read which I have put on my wish list. After my 6 months I will start paying a bit more but I will prpbably set myself a £4 limit
squiffs
There's a kindle from amazon available for £
Cinnamon
It is a non 3G version though. Its not an issue for some, but I need 3G connection here too, plus it is handy for overseas. I love & adore my Kindle,& was going to buy my Husband one of his own for Christmas, after he used mine non stop on holiday earlier this year I might however get the Kindle Fire for myself later next year,& give him my Kindle instead. If he is good

If he is good Oh yeah, it's totally minimally functional, but it's within a lot of peoples' price brackets. personally if I were to get one I'd like one with a keyboard, and I think that's one of the other functions missing from the new cheapy kindle. I'm interested in amazon's answer to the ipad that was released this week!
Gloss-Hen
My mum brought the £111 one and it's brilliant she only needs to charge it once every four weeks
Guest
I bought one for my son and he loves it - I couldn't keep up with all of the books he was reading. He has the 3g version and downloads are almost instant. He damaged the first one accidentally and it was replaced witnin 2 days - and I just sent the old one back by return of post! Brilliant! AJuff
I bought one this evening as an anniversary gift for DH. He work away quite a lot now so I think he'll really enjoy it, he hates finishing a book when he's away and taking the risk of a new one!! Christian
Does anyone have the £89 version yet? It is my Mum's birthday in December and she has been after a kindle for 6 months - since she borrowed mine for a day and loved it!
pips_pekins
Last year, OH suggested getting me a Kindle for Christmas. At the time I wasn't too sure. I have had some vouchers for my birthday and after reading through this thread, have decided to order one After a bit of research, I am going for the 3G one Cinnamon, what is the Stacks? I saw you mentioned this in a previous post and Calibre?
Cinnamon
The Stacks WAS a free download place, but now you have to pay a yearly fee I think....it all looks mighty confusing now anyhow. luckily I got all the ones i wanted just before they changed it all. Calibre is a brilliant program that changes the format of ebooks,so you can download in one format then convert it to something Kindle friendly,& add it to your library. Lavenders_Blue
Ahhh the Omlet effect I never even knew I wanted a Kindle until I read this thread, now it's on my Christmas list! I like the idea of being able to store lots of books on it for holidays etc, rather than filling a suitcase with bulky paperbacks. I also like the idea of it reducing my clutter, so I don't have books sitting around on shelves that may only be read very occasionally or possibly never again. Has anyone tried the newspaper subscriptions on Kindle? That seems like a really good idea, although you don't seem to be able to get i which is the paper I usually read (when I have a chance to buy one). Seagazer
What I love is that I've always 'got' the book. With normal books I always pass them on and only keep special books but sometimes you just want to re-read a book. This way I don't have to have storage space for them all, they're in my Kindle.
