Omlet forum must-read!

It's interesting that quite a few folk here read books over again - how many of you do that?

I was chatting to my neighbour earlier, her daughter is younger than Rosie and as part of our clear up we have donated some of Rosie's old books to her. R had been keeping them to read over again, she sometimes reads books 3 or 4 times and sees something new in them each time. The girl next door is more like me... usually only reads a book once, and really enjoys it mind, then passes it on. On the odd occasion a really good book will warrant keeping or reading again a couple of years later.

Some of my books are like my riends - I love them & could never part with them.

I regularly re read 10 or so books,& I find them almost comforting in a way - yes,I know the plot, but books are cerebral & I can make of a book what I want, depending on how I feel at the time.

Sometimes I am just in the mood to read 'the Memoirs of a Geisha' say & only that book will do.

The Harry Potters I read from the start each time a new book came out & then added the new one on the end,& it was fantastic. I also re read each one when it is made into a movie.

I am only really now getting rid of (passing on to the daughters really)the hard copies of some books that I now have on Kindle, even though they were among the first I added to my Kindle, because they are all time favourites :P

Good point, Claret. I will definitely read a good book more than once, especially when time has passed and I've forgotten parts.

I haven't done so recently as I there are so many books that I'm keen to read for the first time, I have a backlog of about 3 dozen.

Certainly, as a child I re read books, about 10 times for Black Beauty, then later the same for Wuthering Heights. I'd read them both happily now if it weren't for the backlog.

I don't usually re-read books, the only one I have is Anne Franks Diary. I read it at school, then again as a teenager and when we went to Amsterdam and to the house/museum I bought the book again and read it.

YS has a large collection of books which he often reads a few times. I have tried to get him to pass the books on but he says he might want to read them all again.

I've recently read Major Pettigrows Last Stand and loved it :D I've just finished Pilgrim State by Jacqueline Walker, which i would recommend. It's Jacqueline's memoir of her mother and is about her growing up in the 60's in London as a Jamaican.

I have a few which i re-read, but mainly either pass books on or get them from the library anyway.

I rarely reread book but certain movies I watch over and over, I say I will just watch until... ... and end up watching the whole thing. Examples would be anything by Richard Curtis- I watched the last 45 mins of Love Actually on Friday night. I know what is coming, it's corny but it makes me feel good. I am the same with Gladiator, Schindler's List and Moonstruck. Odd choices maybe but I find a feelgood bit in all of them. It's a bit like that with some music too. I have seen REM, Muse and the Chili Peppers so many times but I always feel compelled to go back again and again.

I rarely reread books with few exceptions like Harry Potter. I do re watch a few films though not many , funny enough Schindlers List and love actually being 2 of my favourites though totally opposite types of films.

I downloaded 'Room' on Kindle after someone recommended on here on Friday and read it over the weekend. Wasn't sure when i started but would recommend to anyone and excellent and thought provoking book.

Have started Chickens, Mules etc and looking good so far for a light read :D

I love this thread :D

I always struggle with ideas of what to read next so have bought myself a new notebook and listed all your books in there and am going to work my way through them.

I have just started The Island but nearly chose a different one by Victoria Hislop - about Spain/Franco 'The Return'

I love 'Driving Over Lemons'. Also 'Blackberry Wine' by Joanne Harris

My re-read choice would be 'To Kill A Mockingbird', I first read it at school and have loved it ever since.

Has anyone read The Slap?

I've just finished it and absolutely hated it, I think it one of the most vile books I've ever read and would be interested for others opinions.

I see what you mean. I'm just up to the part where the child has been slapped, and apart from wanting to slap him myself, and pretty much all of the other characters too, with the exceptions of Hector's wife and parents, I'm finding the language (and I don't mean swear words) and the obsession with bodily functions a tad OTT.

It is a book that should not be tossed aside lightly, but rather, hurled with great force. I wish I was the originator of those words I'm not sure I will waste much more time on it TBH. I'm glad I didn't pay full price.

Thanks for recommendations and otherwise, now have 5 books waiting to be read :D Think I'll give yours a miss Egluntyne though I do think a book is doing it's job if it stimulates an emotion, even if it is to throw it out the window.
