Prom!

Recommended Posts

It is prom season - my daughters is tonight & I know a couple of other forum members children have had theirs recently too.

My girl is upstairs soaking in the bathtub now & I am preparing for the 2.30am pick up later

She has been fairly low cost & low maintenance,as was my eldest, with frocks under £40 for both of them, but I know of one parent who has spent £300 on their daughters dress for tonight :roll::roll:

Apparantly a lot of girls are doing the spray tan/pro false nails & eyelash extensions - this is one time I am glad to be the parent of a scruffy emo

She will certainly look very different from all the other girls there,I am sure :?

She is also going to an after Prom bash at one of the girls in her years home. They have charged an entry fee of £10, & are using all the money to pay for party stuff - food & drink,entertainment,chill-out tents, bouncers & so forth 8)

I would love to hear what your teens are doing & to see some photos too :P

I have heard of some that get their dresses shipped in from the US. I have seen prom photos of girls essentially wearing wedding dresses  Then they have the limos and other extravagant ways of arriving. My son arrived with some friend riding kiddie scooters. Guess who got the biggest cheer and the most photos when they arrived - not the limos

Mine is on a Limo list.

She was going to go in 'The Beast',my husbands home made project amphibious vehicle, but got cold feet.

Then it was on the back of his bike, but she didn't want helmet hair

At the eldests prom, boys arrived on Space Hoppers,Pogo Sticks,Wheelbarrows & 2 girls came in the bucket of a tractor, lined with fluffy cushions, with it raised right up in the air 8)

I did GCSE fashion so I made my own dress - the only cost was the fabric - and my friend and I got driven to the prom in her dad's friend's convertible sports car - I also went to my boyfriend's prom (I went to an all girl school and he an all boys) in the same dress - so it was double value for money :)

And I too was a scruffy grungey/gothy/outcast kid at school - so I didn't have any fake tan, falsies or acrylic nails, and I think I wore a pair of bohemian indian slippers covered in sequins instead of heels!

My eldest didn't want to go to his school prom 2 years ago so I didn't push it. Then I found out that it was because he couldn't face the balloons being released for his best friend who had died during their g.c.s.e.'s

At youngest's school (Primary!) they had a stretch limo  & dinner & dancing at a nearby hotel...overkill at that age!

DS is getting ready for his as I type this. It is so much easier with boys and he does look pretty smart in his (hired) suit. Just hoping that the rain holds off for the photos!

He is going with a few other mates in a VW camper van which I think is a pretty cool idea. People have turned up in helicopters in the past!!

Last year one lad ran in on those big bendy leg things which was different.

Photos will be around later.....

Well,it took a few hours, but she is ready at last!

We are leaving in a bit to drop her off at her friends house,to get the hot pink Limo, which is doing a few laps around town before taking them to the Prom.

She looks, errrrrrrrrrr, unusual - not your normal Prom look at all,but it makes her happy

Here she is - she certainly won the shortest skirt of the evening award :lol::lol::lol:

It belted down outside the venue,so the arrivals was a bit of a washout, but we still saw a fire engine,a trike,a milk float & a he"Ooops, word censored!"

I felt a bit weepy actually - still do in fact - she is all growed up! :(

She looks amazing! 8)

I passed a double decker bus teeming with girls in ball gowns on my way home from work on Thursday night - looked like a rainbow, there were some really pretty dresses! It may be an 'american thing', but I love it (although not too young!) A great chance to dress up - wish they'd been around when I was younger!

This was my handsome dude in 2007 - we borrowed a friends' renovated T Bird for transport 8)

Not sure why Flickr doesn't want to show the picture but here is a link to DS dressed up!

Sarah - your daughter looks amazing. Hope she is having a good time. I am just wondering if I will get to sleep before Jamie gets back????
