freddie
Wish us luck, or something ,please, as we are bidding on a house, only three miles from where we live now, but with a bit more garden(more hens??!!) and .... wait for it..... A downstairs loo!!! I dont have very high aspirations, really, but dearly wish for a bit more room, as 4 of us are in our lovely 3 bed cottage, and are bursting at the seams, we've been here for 18 yrs!!! Much telephoning is being done at the mo, and I'm sat waiting to see if the offer has been enough.

beach chick
congrats - and just think what fun you can have now with a major declutter before the move!! (we moved way too much clutter, I think there are still boxes in the loft 12 years later that have never been unpacked )
craftyhunnypie
Congratulations! Great feeling...we should be getting our completion date next week! It's taken sooo long - mainly due to our solicitor worrying when the septic tank was last emptied. Enjoy packing up boxes & decluttering! freddie
septic tanks are new to me too, as is Oil (look at the price of it ), so it'll be a steep learning curve! My main worry about it all is to get a load of fencing done asap, to keep all the animals where they're supposed to be! the current owners have goats, and ducks, and hens!!!!! Christian
The tank will be fine freddie. Ours is currently shared between 8 houses (a massive tank) and is emptied once a year. £60 per household, no dramas. As for oil......Try to fill up in the summer if you can, delivery times vary depending on location, but autumn/winter are prime times and prices are higher. See if you neighbours are willing to split a delivery? We share the delivery with next door and it saves you a bit. The price of oil is through the roof at the moment, but you need it, so have to pay! Invest in a Watchman for your tank. It monitors the levels and sends a signal to the house, so you can keep an eye on it.

See if you neighbours are willing to split a delivery? We share the delivery with next door and it saves you a bit. We have a spetic tank that we share with next door, we have been here for 7 years and it has been no problem but it is now being emptied between three and six months, neighbours not keen on finding out why but it will need to be sorted, I don't think they want to spend out any money! Oil, we use oil, no gas in the village, shop around and you can get better prices, make sure you have a lock on your tank, thefts of oil are quite frequent now I think it is Boiler Juice who email with special prices, I think they deliver to an area on a set day, not always cheaper though. In our village some villagers have clubbed together to do bulk orders and get better prices. We pay an amount each month so it means that you don't have a huge bill, we have an oil aga too and that likes oil! Chrissie
freddie
Thanks for all this, it helps a lot! the council tax band is really cheap, as it's in the middle of nowhere, so that's a big plus! stamp duty is a killer tho
