Sins of the mothers

Recommended Posts

Never seeks to amaze me the mannerisms and habits I see in my boys which remind me of long departed relatives - many my kids never met. YS has some bits of my mum and OH's dad - not a good mix. Also some of their habits mirror mine and OH';s when we were kids.

A friend at work gave me a box of scottie dog shortbreads from Scotland (obvious) when she returned from holiday. I put them in the biscuit tin - yesterday when I went to get a biscuit - all the heads and feet had been nibbled and bodies put back :shameonu: I know we havent got mice - but guess what neither boy would admit to this dispicable sin. When I was little I nibbled half of all the chocolates one Christmas and put the uneaten bit back in the box. My mum was mortified when she went to offer them round  They also finicky eaters - I was too as a child and I think this has come back to haunt me.

I met very a close friend of my birth mother a few years ago and she said it was uncanny how I had a couple of mannerisms of my mother's (who I only met for the first time about 8 years ago). Annoyingly, I also inherited her figure and frizzy, wavy hair too, whilst my half-sister has beautifully straight, swishy blond hair and a figure to die for :lol: .

You have my sympathy re the frizzy hair - I was told my blond frizz is down to having a red head for a mum  I have tried everything on the market and nothing works.

I remember a while back someone posted about the fact they were turning into their mother - sad to say I have all the signs but thats another thread

My son is a bit more like OH's dad in manner - quiet and dry humour. DD is definitely like OH's sister - in your face noisy and quite confident - attention seeker. Both look like my side of the family and my son is the spitting image of my dad when he was the same age. DS also has the same double jointed thumbs as my brother. All 3 of us like plaids and tartans - and that has always been such a good thing when buying clothes as presents - if I like it I know they will!

Oh, Patsylabrador...I know exactly what you mean!!! EVERYONE remarks on how identical my two boys are to OH! Thanks a BUNCH! I did all the hard work! - throwing up, SPD etc. He even managed to miss the birth of DS 2 @ 29 weeks with all asociated trauma!

However, I think that its just downright spooky seeing things in your children that mirror grandparents who died before they were born!!!!

Sadly both my boys have my 'forthright' manner rather than OH 's laid backness....not a good remedy for household harmony! OH threatens to emigrate on a regular basis! :(

Rather spookily I look like my Great Grandmother, I have a photo of her when she was in her youth and we have identical eyes, nose, hair and cheekbones. When I showed the photo to a colleague she thought it was me in fancy dress ( the picture was taken circa 1905)!

Me too, she was a big part of my dad's life and he says I am like her in character too. She was 101 when I was born and died a year later having been active and intellectually sharp as a tack her whole life.

We have a photo of her aged about 17 and it is amazing how like her I look - she also looks like she has better things to do than to stand still in formal clothes and have her photo taken - which is very me as well!

DS2 resembles his great-granddad, who died 28 years before he was born. DS2 was born on what would have been his 100th birthday and is like him physically, in character and in other ways like both being ambidextrous. If I believed in reincarnation I would think it was a bit spooky!
