Indian Summer!

Recommended Posts

Know I'm getting boring here but guess what...it's still raining :( According to our weather station 36mm in last 24 hours...however it seems more than that. The girls ate most of their food from the feeder yesterday as they spent so much time undercover rather than free ranging. It is strange to think that not that far away other girls were sunbathing  (saw some nice photos on another thread of them).

Enjoy the sun those of you who have it :D

I melt and whine at anything over 23 degrees, so looking forward to cooler weather. Luckily for me garden is north facing so as sun is lower the patio has remained shady and cool. It's given me the chance to get patio furniture oiled & away before rain so that is good and I'm a fairweather gardener so getting beds sorted before autumn returns.

Had to take the dogs out early this morning to avoid the heat, they really don't like getting too hot! 8am out on the fields and I'm wearing vest top and shorts - I haven't been out without a fleece for months!

And we picked blackberries! Aren't they normally over by now? The hedges were bursting with them! I've picked loads to make bramble jelly. And they had no maggots in - normally they are a bit maggoty, must be too late for the flies 8)

Hot Hot Hot here too :D I have been able to get my summer dresses out again for the last few days, and shock people with my milk bottle white legs

The chickens are mostly lying around sunbathing with their wings and legs stretched out... bliss! Had to walk the dog at 7.30 this morning before it got too hot, and won't be able to go out again until late this afternoon when it's cooled down again. We'll all melt otherwise!

Had a BBQ at Mum and Dad's yesterday which was great, their whole street smelt of BBQ - obviously everyone else had had the same idea!

I can't believe how hot it is here, went to a vintage ploughing match today and even I thought that it was really too hot and I'm a tropical flower. The dogs don't mind it really, both having saluki blood in them, they tolerate the heat pretty well. I'll take them out to a stream walk in about an hour (can't believe how early it gets dark now  ) so they can have a paddle.

Thankfully my house is lovely and cool, both hounds are lying on the stone floor in the kitchen. Rosie actually said earlier that she wouldn't mind rain

At least I was able to work in the garden. Leeks in and 2 raised beds emptied and moved in preparation for the eglu going back to its winter position nearer the house :D Quite pleasant temperature to work in with little wind (it's 15 degrees just now) and no rain..hurrah :!: I suppose one benefit to living up here is that we do have longer light in the evenings :?

This weather has been great, we had a houseful of teenagers for my ED's 18th party on Friday night. We decorated the garden with coloured lights and candles and they spent most of the time out there. It was great being able to take all of the food outside saved too much mess indoors and gave them somewhere to cool of from their daft dancing in the lounge. We have had some old favourites like the makarena(sp) being taught to boys who have never danced before, hilarious. :D

I did boil on Saturday though, we hired a carpet cleaner in anticipation of party problems, as it happened they were good as gold, but we cleaned the house from top to bottom anyway, lovely having soft clean carpets and they dried in a trice too.

Spent Sunday finishing my book in the garden with a Pimms ot two. :D

A pretty good weekend for early October. :D
