Hugh has finally lost the plot!

I liked the sound of the coronation egg too, but I think I would leave out the lentils (but keep the raisins :D )

On the whole, this series has been good. Some different ideas to try. I think I would like to thumb through the book first before deciding to buy it. I have so many veggie books already that I only make 1-2 recipes from.

We've been making curried egg sarnies here for years with lentils (left over dhal is really good with egg!) but without raisins !! We are veggie, and I have bought a copy of the book and have already used it loads..I can honestly say that we have not had a single thing from it that we haven't loved..they are great recipes for after work too, nothing too complicated or cheffy. I have loads of Veggie (and non-veggie) recipe books but this has been in constant use since I bought it about 5 weeks ago... I thoroughly recommend it...

My only complaint is the concept of the t v show that it is somehow radical to have meals without meat! I guess many non-veggies have meat free meals from time to time, and don't automatically feel deprived... so why make such a big deal about it?

I see it as being more like it is radical for him, a committed & celebrated meat eater.

One who has made a very big deal about raising his own meat for the table.

We eat veggie maybe once or twice a week, but even for us to be veggie full time would be a huge change,& not one we are ever likely to take.

Possibly the show is aimed more towards people like me for who me it would be a huge lifestyle change, than those who have already done it?

It is showing us how the other half (veggies) live.

I feel strangely let down when I watch this programme :? I was vegggie for about 25 years but started eating meat that we'd raised ourselves, starting with table birds.........aided and abetted by Hugh, even if he wasn't here personally! We were fortunate to find the smallholding where we now live and raise all animals for meat. I'm still veggie when I eat away from home and I know Hugh only did this for 4 months but I still feel odd watching it :lol:

I think Sarah's right - it is radical for Hugh......and I do like the passion he has for his new (temporary) lifestyle and there are some interesting recipes. If it makes other chefs think about cooking some decent veggie food it can only be for the good - and perhaps an end to the ubiquitous 'pasta in tomato sauce' as part of the Christmas Menus!

I really want to make the uncooked chocolate tart. Looked delicious!

Me too! I did a bit of reading up on raw food a couple of years or so ago. I could never, ever commit to a raw food diet, it would take such a huge shift in thinking and attitude to food. But I did start sprouting seeds and pulses and made some delicious recipes (raw hummus is lush), and made my own fresh juice every day.

Of course, I can't remember the last time I got the sprouter or the juicer out... I think this programme has given me a bit of inspiration to start again though.

I love sprouting seeds, the only trouble is, I need to be a bit more organised about when I start them off so that I have sprouts when I want them (you can't just conjure them up when you fancy a sarnie  ). I'm very interested in having a go with microveg, that's only one step on from sprouting so should work on the windowsill ...

That chocolate tart looked divine, it can't really have tasted as good as it looked ... can it ... :eh: ?????
