bigmommasally
I make quite a lot of soups and normally use a stick blender and splatter the kitchen. My stick blender died a death tonight so I thought I might ask Santa for a Liquidizer or Soup Maker. Has anyone got a soup maker and how does it compare to cooking in a pan and then liquidizing? Mum
Never heard of a soup maker before (so I looked it up ) Personally, I think you would get more use from a standard liquidiser; the soup maker just looks like a liquidiser with a heater incorporated. Bramble
Tough decision!!! I keep looking at soup makers and wondering if/how well they work, but always continue with my stick blender on the basis that they take up far less space and are a bit more versatile. I do keep dreaming of a vitamix blender, but they are serious money and I hear conflicting reports about how well they actually make soup ... Let us know what you decide! Cinnamon
Stick blender here too - I love mine & if you buy a tall pot or jug,or cook the soup in a massive pot,the splatter factor is much less
Bramble
Have to say, I've never found my stick blender splatters much at all (as long as it's well into the soup BEFORE I switch it on/off ) That might be because it's a very cheap one, so not very powerful, but it does all I need it to do! Chickendoodle
I recently broke my liquidiser and replaced it with a Bamix stick blender. I find the stick blender much better / safer for soups as it does away with ladling hot soup between the saucepan and liquidiser (and the nasty moment when you turn the blender on and the boiling soup gets swirled around inside and up to the lid- I always held the top on under a tea towel but it still felt very hazardous!) Bramble
Yes, it's the price of a vitamix that puts me off ...
Purplemaniacs
Yes, it's the price of a vitamix that puts me off ... I've just looked at the price, I think I need a cup of tea to recover. Thought I might like a blender but after buying a kitchen aid mixer at the beginning of the year I will carry on with my stick blender, which I do like. It was just the Omlet effect that made me look at the vitamix I would think a liquidiser would be more useful than a soup maker but I have only seen adverts for the soup maker. Patricia W
Anyone got any recommendations for a stick blender that lasts? I've had 2 in the last 3 years and am fed up with them dying on me in the middle of a lovely soup.
