New Year. Like/hate/any resolutions?

Recommended Posts

Looney, I am trying to learn French and German but I forget to practice and then have to go back several steps. It might be fun if there was a thread where people could write in a language other than English so we could all practice. It does pay, I got a half price loo visit in heidelberg. The cleaner was fed up with no one talking to her and gave me a discount. All I said was Hallo, jah and danke!

OH and I will spend New years eve at home with a few nibbles and a drink or two. Not sure what DS and DD are doing. I will be in bed before midnight though, if DD and DS are out OH will have to see the new year in by himself.

I want to be more thrifty in 2012. I have a couple of years to convince OH that me retiring at 50 is a darn good idea :D I have found a blog and forum which has some very good advice about being thrifty, living a simple life being more self reliant. I have been reading it a lot  . Expanding the veg garden is a must this coming year. Learning to sew on my 3 year old and never used sewing machine is another goal to aim for. Lastly in this list but top of the list for 2012, finish doing up the kitchen which has been work in progress for nearly 3 years.

We've always had people round (just a few, not hoards!) - but this year, we're just staying in on our own. ES and girlfriend are going to a party, YS will be in a huge huff because we're about to cancel his WOW subscription (long story  ) so we'll be lucky if we're still up at the bells  .

Don't really do resolutions but hope to start running again and in the process lose some of the weight I've gained this year :? .

Yes, I'm afraid so :? . He changed the amount of time he was allowed to play a while back and lied to our faces when we found out. We told him if he did it again, we'd cancel the subscription (which we pay for). We found out today that he did it again. I don't like doing it but I think it's a measure of how addictive the game is is that he's prepared to deceive us. He's such a good boy in every other respect so we're really disappointed in him :( .

We've got to be his parents, not his friends :( .

I hate WOW. My hubby was addicted to it and as a consequence I didn't see him for days (he'd play until the wee hours whilst I slept and still be asleep when I got up). He cancelled it a few times before finally deleting it off his pc. Best. Thing. Ever.

Sadly, he is now hooked into the new Star Wars online game :(

At least you saw through the threat. It's not like he didn't know what would happen. Our son borrowed his sisters laptop, and then one day I discovered a post from him on Facebook - at 1.30AM! He'd been pretending to be asleep when we went up and then would sneakily go on. One night I went in to say night, and thought that's an odd sound. He only had the thing under his duvet, his head on the pillow 'asleep'! Laptop no more.

I must do something as I did French and Spanish at uni and haven't really used them since! It is such a shame and one of those things that I never get around to. I agree that if you can make an effort, even with the absolute basics, people are more willing to help you out when abroad.

I'm clearing up the kitchen, putting things away, tidying cupboards out, and gradually getting rid of Christmas decorations although I'm leaving the tree up till next weekend. I always feel inspired to have a big clear-out at New Year. The Wizard of Oz is on this afternoon, so I think I'm going to work on the tidying and cleaning this morning, and then sit down and chill out! :D

Ooooh, the Wizard of Oz. I love it!

Will make some curtains for my bedroom today and then sit down and watch it :D

I really need to some out my finances this year. I do earn enough for my lifestyle, just, but never seem to have any money to save...cut backs are needed I think. Once the new house is in order!

Planning on getting a dog this year (so excited  ) which I will share with my Mum when at work. She is looking forward to it too as it has been a while since she had a dog.

Will do more crafting/crafts fairs as I love it! My spare room is all set up for crafting now, just need to find somewhere for all the fabric
