Lavenders_Blue
I went to the supermarket this morning and wondered why there was a long queue at the petrol station (I didn't join it!). All became clear when I picked up a newspaper. I have 3/4 tank petrol and am not planning to drive anywhere more than a few miles away until after the weekend at least, by which time I expect most of the hysteria will have died down. There's bloke who skateboards around town pulled along by his rottie... or at least there was until the rozzers caught up with him as he was being towed down the high street. What was he stopped for?! Can't imagine he was causing any more nuisance than people racing along the pavements on mobility scooters? welovemarmite
I remember when all shops were closed on a Sunday and there was half day closing mid-week too. I'd love to return to those days when folks' sense of urgency was less and people weren't so avaricious. Yes please, and whilst we are at it can we get rid of mobile phones and reality TV? He was weaving in and out of the traffic on the main road I remember when all shops were closed on a Sunday and there was half day closing mid-week too. I'll join you in that. Am I the only one who turns their mobile off when they get in in the evening? If people want me, they can either leave a message or call me at home. welovemarmite
I actually dont use a mobile. I have one, dont know the number, think its got credit on it and its usually flat. I only charge it up if i am going on a long journey on my own. other than that i dont bother. We have no mobile signal in our village so no one can rely on it to get hold of me. I dont have a watch either!!
chickencam
I do like having a mobile, I don't use it a lot, but it was great yesterday when ED got delayed by nearly 2 hours coming home on the train, without mobiles we would have been worried and probably waiting around on a draughty platform for hours. We have filled up both of our cars that were half full, we are due to go on a long journey at the weekend and would like to be able to make it there and back without having to panic about fuel. We will decide in a couple of days which car to use when it becomes clearer if there will be a strike or not, if there is then we will need to take the more fuel efficient but smaller of the two. Lavenders_Blue
I dont have a watch either!! Me neither! In fact neither hubby or I wear a watch. Until recently we didn't have an answerphone either. Our friends think this is a bit odd! I do have a mobile but it is over 6 years old and doesn't do any fancy internet-y stuff which suits me just fine, I can't bear to see people glued to their phones. patsylabrador
I love my mobile. I very rarely talk on it except to OH who likes to touch base several times a day. He works very long hours now and we send each other pics of things in our days etc. Soppy I know. I text, Twitter, come on this forum, play games with people all over the world and have a lot of fun with it. I love keeping up with the news and use it for that too and get alerts and if a question pops into my head, wherever I am I can try and find the answer immediately. I want to keep up with technology as I get older and get what I want from it.
Cinnamon
My mobile is by my side 24/7. It is vital for me to keep up with the daughters, husband & business & I can honestly say that if it were to go missing I would be bereft!
Alis girls
Sure has DM - we are a petrol free zone in NW London. Queues for miles. I was saying to OH one way to jump the queues would be to carry a lighter and shout "make my day" suspect queues would soon disperse. The Dogmother
I love that Fred! My parents live in Herts, 20 miles out of London and say that they haven't noticed any queues at the petrol stations. There wasn't much of a queue at our local station when i drove by so I put £40 in on the way back as I was below a quarter and need to drive down to my folks on Sunday. I can go days without using my mobile, just don't feel the need to constantly be in touch. It's there if I need it and I turn it off when I get back from walking the dogs. abwsco
No petrol at all at the three stations in our town. I've used so much on all my hospital trips this week. Luckily eldest DD managed to get some near her work the other night as she needs her car to get to work but she had to pay quite a bit more for it than normal. She's also had to spend time ringing around petrol stations today to see if any had diesel so that all the builders could fill up as the firm she works for have jobs far and wide and they need to fill the vans up. I did find it amusing though seeing a couple of plonkers in flash cars today driving into the station around the corner even though there are cones there and signs saying NO FUEL. chickencam
There were queues around the block at out local Morrisons at 6pm and at 8pm they had marshalls out at Asda. We filled up out car at 7.30am Wednesday morning after dropping ED at the station and it was just like any normal day, glad we did.
Seagazer
My husband need to fill up his motorbike last night as he commutes to London on it every day. Every petrol station he went to on the way home was either shut or had massive queues. He went out about 9.30 to try the local ones but actually ran out before he got to the 2nd one(nearest was shut) and had to push his motorbikeinto the garage. Its ridiculous, they're not even on strike!
Chortle Chook
I have to go see my mother c100 miles away on Saturday and filled up the car on Wednesday even though I had enough fuel to get there and under normal circumstances would fill up on the way back. I just panic at the thought that I might get stuck at my mother's and so simply had to make sure I had enough petrol to get there and home again. I felt a bit of a dunce however when I realised that a strike hasn't even been called yet and when it is it can't happen till 7 days afterwards (Mobiles - I love mine for texting my sister. It is the only way I can get her to 'hear' what I'm saying )

chickencam
Love the new avatar Egluntyne We were quite relieved when it was announced yesterday that there shouldn't be a strike until after the Easter weekend now, but that still doesn't mean we can get petrol to get back home, because everyone has emptied the petrol stations, again don't want to be stuck with either parents or inlaws. Redwing
Call me cynical but its quite coincidental that the 'strike' threat has caused a massive increase in petrol sales on the closing days of the financial year......
Chortle Chook
That is exactly what my OH and I were saying yesterday evening. Lots of nice tax for the government. The general press interest has also taken attention off of the 'Granny tax'. I was thinking that Cameron had just put his foot in his mouth, but then if he was given to that he would not be where he is in the first place so it has to be a political move really. Duncan08
Hadn't thought of that Redwing, but I think I could be a bit cynical with you too. I had half a tank, and have driven past all the queues that have blocked the dual carraige ways, this morning the roads were clear but there was no fuel left Hopefully by the time they get their deliveries in, eveyone else will have already topped up so I will be able to sail in and out Use my mobile to keep tabs on this forum, so no, wouldn't be without it! Could live without a TV though.

welovemarmite
Just heard about the poor lady in York with burns. She was doing somethiing very silly, but the govt has to take some responsibility for her injuries... hope that jerry can minister can sleep tonight. rachel19
I agree the Government shouldn't have said what they have said but the media have pushed it just as badly as they always do - people don't have to listen to them but the general public seem intent on going into blind panic and not actually getting the facts first. It is terrible that that lady got badly burnt but she was doing something incredibly stupid - I think it would be a bit much to blame the Government for that
