The Dogmother
a friend has just texted to say that there's a massive queue of cars at the Te$co petrol station... what are folks like? They'll be panic buying at the supermarkets soon *tuts*

The Dogmother
There's bloke who skateboards around town pulled along by his rottie... or at least there was until the rozzers caught up with him as he was being towed down the high street. Cinnamon
Quite glad that the teen has dropped out of college,as its saving me a fortune in petrol Very annoyingly, the main petrol station in Henley is along the main road into town, which gets really heavily congested,so adding queuing cars to the equation equals major chaos, and the back road in is shut next week
Geoid
Im not surprised, as the official government advice is to "to top up petrol tanks and fill jerrycans as part of 'sensible' precautions". Panic buying is hardly sensible....
The Dogmother
Yes, I saw that in the paper this morning - hardly prudent of them is it?

craftyhunnypie
I can't drive at the moment anyway. But aren't people daft? If they just carried on as normal it would be fine. I use the village shop mainly anyway - as although it's a bit more pricey, it doesn't cost as much as the fuel to drive into Aber or Lampeter. There is a good bus service here too if needed. lillybettybabs
I like to go against the grain so i won't be queuing - i do worry whats going to happen next though, Water rations, price hike on bread etc because the crops failed?

ClaireG
It's madness, same as people cramming trolleys full of shopping because the supermarket is going to be shut for a day
welovemarmite
I need some fuel but cant be bothered to go and q. Not desperate until sunday, so will leave it until then. There is a potential problem looming with lorry drivers and a cock up with digital tacographs stopping working.... dont know enought bout it to understand whether its a huge problem, but if it does become one it means a large number of lorry drivers either not being allowed to drive, or driving illegally. Oh well, we will all survive I am sure..

Yep it did, i only q'd once then, and that was because i actually needed fuel rather than wanting to hoard it.
The Dogmother
Just caught up on the news and I understand that no decision has been reached about a strike yet, and that the drivers have to give a week's notice of any action.. so not real hurry. abwsco
I didn't know anything about it until last night when our town had run out of petrol. Had wondered why there were huge queues though at all the petrol stations we'd passed on my three trips to and from the hospital yesterday. Would have been down to the OAP's around here who HAVE to put petrol in even if they're not going anywhere My FiL and all his golf club chums will have been doing that
The Dogmother
It never ceases to amaze me the way some folks go into a blind panic when it snows or the electric goes off... wonder if we'll have panic buying when the country is flooded with all those extra people for the Olympics... surely we won't have enough bread to cover everyone. Cinnamon
I filled up with no problems here today - mine was the only car on the forecourt The chap did say they had been very busy though. It feels better knowing I now have a full tank of petrol, should it be needed, although the daughter is getting the train back from Uni for the Easter break this weekend, just in case! Yes, the shops are closed for a day and folks act like the end is nigh I remember when all shops were closed on a Sunday and there was half day closing mid-week too. I'd love to return to those days when folks' sense of urgency was less and people weren't so avaricious.
