urbanchick
We use collapsable trellis (£5 from Asda) to block open doors into the conservatory, kitchen and garage. It expands to the size needed. It lets the air through but deters the girls. Not practical for dogs though..... Brilliant idea! I have just bought mine from Wilkinsons for £2.99. bronze
How do people find chickens are with dog/cat flaps. If they can't manage them I would definitely go forhe board with a flap in it route. If they can manage it I have no idea
Laura & CTB
We also use collapsible trellis - just prop it up against the patio doors. I also use it to fence off my pot plants as it's easy to remove when the chooks are back in their run. They have managed to push their beaks through the cat flap once or twice (scared the cat silly) but havent got any further - just as well
Lovemychooks
My girls quite often come into the kitchen if I have to pop inside while the kids are playing in the garden.Maybe I should mind but I really don't! They make me laugh and they only come in to see what's going on, when I go back out I have three hens flapping behind me. It doesn't help that I sometimes sneak them a little sweetcorn when they are out there. Naughty I know!! I too don't mind them coming into the kitchen but nowhere else because I don't want poo everywhere !! I could sit and watch them all day

The Dogmother
Mine used to peck at the outside of it to gain my attention.
hillfamily
I had a suitable size piece of picket fence left over from the front garden so I made it into a gate to go across the back door The girls still enjoy popping their heads through the gaps to see if they can get or just to have a chat
Elaine C
Sorry haven't got a serious solution to your dilema but if all else fails give them some marigolds and tell them to get on with the washing up/housework etc Seriously though your girls and your garden both look fab. My garden's more on the wildlife theme - plenty of weeds but there are some proper plants in amongst the weeds - somewhere! E

chrisnrob
Chris has a special 'chicken voice' that he uses. Usually when he lets them out in the morning and can be heard calling "Morning girls!" as he wanders down the garden Rob

Christian
OH will kill me for saying this, but he sings to the girls when he picks them up! 'You are so beautiful to me' is one of their favourites!! Chelsea, I also sing 'My favourite things' to my girls. It really calms them down. They also like Eva Cassidy and anything by The Carpenters!!! Don't all look at me like that! Egluntyne
I'm sure you could be very creative, and have a luxurious palace for your flock, but do watch out for the dreaded Red Mite.
The Dogmother
Don't worry Christian, I'm with you on the music taste. Does OH sing with a Scottish accent too? Having chooks give me an excuse for 'out of the closet madness'; people can just roll their eyes and tut about mad chicken women rather than just condemning me for being mad as a bag of frogs! Phil makes me laugh when he calls the chooks - he shouts Dolly's name loudly, then says 'Hello Dolly', I keep expccting him to burst into song
