Chicken gym.....

Recommended Posts

Hi all, as you can see from my other post I have just made a pen for my hens at the back of my garden. I have seen the feathers and beaky gym and it made me giggle  BUT just wondered if it was worth buying? Are they only going to use it when I'm leading them around it with corn? Will it keep them occupied and stop them getting bored?

I am going to buy the swirly veg holder for them so would like to make the order all in one to save on delivery costs :)

Also what's the deal with CD's, do they really tackle boredom?

Thanks

Lol, I'm not convinced obout the gym! Mine have a couple of funny shaped branches that stick up at different heights, they do love these, i must admit... makes poo picking very easy as it's either in a pile under the branches or near their feed... i don't think they even bother with the rest of their run!

That is priceless! Afraid I have to agree, though - that is for children (or adults!) to have fun with the hens, not for the hens' benefit.

I just have a long piece of plastic-coated washing line with a slip-knot in the end, I tie up cabbages, bolted lettuces, anything you can tighten the line around - that and some branches to perch/jump on keeps them busy, and costs nothing.

Is it April 1st? No hen is going to 'use' the gyms unless food is involved. They would get more exercise if you just lobbed a handful of corn up the garden. £19.99 for what looks like 4 garden canes? The tunnel you could easily replicate with of a couple of cardboard boxes, and the gym hoop and hurdle could easily be made with garden canes, a hoola hoop and some duct tape.

There - I've just saved you £35. You could buy two new hens with that, plus a couple of ice creams.
