lillybettybabs
I have just done a dark wash this afternoon, I tend to scoop out all the darks from the washing basket and load it. OH had put one of his posh jumpers in the basket that is dry clean only but i didn't notice so you can guess what has happened tot he posh jumper! So is it n-my fault for scooping everything up or his for putting what he knew was dry clean only in the wash basket?
WitchHazel
His fault. You're his wife, not his mother -it's not your responsibility to check each and every item. It's much easier for the wearer to sort the clothes as they take them off than it is for the person doing the washing to have to sort everything. bluekarin
I agree with above. I never check pocket or items for their washing credentials - its bad enough having to right wrong way round socks . I think everything we have is ok to be machine washed Tough if it isn't. Looney
If I were in your situation, it would definitely be OH's fault! However, if OH had scooped up my jumper - it would have been his fault for not checking!
Ain't Nobody Here
I agree, his fault . its bad enough having to right wrong way round socks . I gave up righting my sons' socks. Once they've worn them again, insideout, they turn the right way again once they take them off .
Alis girls
I washed a yoghurt covered fruit flake that had dropped in my nurses uniform pocket ( when I was scoffing them at work) and its left a mark. i didnt realise till I caught sight of myself in the mirror at work yestderday and it looks like my nipple is showing thro uniform on one side only. Was soo shocked I put my cardi on all day, I hope no one noticed.

Seagazer
Definitely his fault! I've just had to get another new washing machine as the old (not that old) washing machine went kaput. Apparently its my fault (according to OH) as I never go through all the pockets of the clothes (there were 5 of us here until a couple of weeks ago) and I don't do the zips/buttons up. I say its up to them to empty their pockets - I do mine. I'm going to start putting the dirty clothes back in their rooms if I can feel stuff in their pockets - they have been warned! soapdragon
Totally OH's fault! Franklin house rule number 423; All clothes retrieved from washing basket (NOT floor) for laundering shall be deemed to have been checked for and cleared of foreign articles. The washee shall take no responsibility for any damage relating to faliure to check for aforesaid items howsoever damage occurs. majorbloodnock
Now the alternative view - dare I say the voice of reason? The fault, if you want to deal with blame, lies with both of you. People make mistakes. If you don't check, you'll make more mistakes. If two people check, they'll provide a safety net for each other, so the number of mistakes that slip through are dramatically fewer. The jumper under discussion suffered because no-one checked. There. Gauntlet duly laid down.
Alis girls
Sad thing is I wondered where the fruit flake had gone when it dropped - assumed was under the desk - so guilty too of not checking pockets
soapdragon
Dear Soap Dragon.... Please can I have the other 400 house rules.....It would make such a nice Christmas present for my husband.....especially when I can just say please see rule 367..... Love the idea perhaps it time to write our family rule book now where to start...... I would love to be able post the entire Franklin family rule book however, on checking, I find that many of the rules have been scrawled over, rubbed out or otherwise defaced. Other acts of wanton vandalism have been visited upon the rule book and someone has even had the audacity to re write some of them to suit their own nefarious purposes. The only remaining legible/sensible rules are as follows: 91: All milk should be opened in date sequential order.Failure to do so may result in hot drinks containing blue furry floaty bits. 126: Failure to replace the swing bin liner when the bin has been emptied will result in the empty-er having to clean out the aforementioned bin when everyone else fills it on the assumption that there is still a bag present. 137:School lunch bags must be emptied daily if they are required to be filled again the following morning. 184:The corkscrew must, AT ALLTIMES, remain in the cutlery drawer to facilitate quick release of cork on Friday evenings. 187: Hamster food and granola are not, in spite of arguments to the contrary, interchangeable. Hamster food does not taste better with milk (see rule 91.) 203: The hoover is to be used for removing dirt from the floor. Any Lego under the sofa MUST be removed manually. 209: When the last of something (ie; loo roll, milk, etc) has been used the Head Housekeeper must be informed so that stocks may be replenished. 217: Occupants of the house should, in the first instance, make every effort to locate their own lost property. Simply shouting 'Muuuuuuum' will no longer result in a mad panic on the Head Housekeeper's behalf unlessit is 5 minutes or less before the school lift share is due. In such instancesTHERE WILL BE REPERCUSSIONS after school! 223; Any porrige not eaten at breakfast should be immediatley s"Ooops, word censored!"ed into the food waste bin; ditto any remaining fried egg - the pneumatic drill is now broken. 231: Father Christmas sometimes uses the same wrapping paper that the Head Housekeeper uses, especially if 'he' has been wrapping presents late into the night; get over it! Hope this helps!

The Dogmother
Loving the house rules Soapdragon might have to set some up here after the 3rd asking for R to empty the piles on her bedroom floor on to the laundry piles in the bathroom... she has got to the point where she's wearing my knickers! LBB - you know what my answer is; tell him to 'man up and do his own hand-washing'... you can quote me on that Major; I now always double-check the laundry after spending numerous occasions on the floor of the utility room unbunging the washing machine filter not to mention the black sock which madam put in with the white washing
