The Dogmother
Ruby has been racing around the stubble fields, and searching through the stoops of straw for field mice and voles yesterday evening she was really bothered by her ears and scratching at them, rubbing her head on her bed. Turns out that she had harvest mites (Chiggers) in both ears, so I dusted a wee bit of Thornit's in both ears and they are right as rain now. Does anyone else love the smell of it? Takes me back to my childhood, when my great grandad used it in his spaniels' ears. There must be loads of the pesky insects this year as I've got bitten a few times too. I've got so many bites I feel like I've got chicken pox - I don't ever remember being like this - it's driving me mad
Cat tails
I got stung by horse flies a lot this year... Soooooo itchy!
Eggasperated
Don't suppose they do anything similar for cats feet? My poor Lily's feet are getting raw in between the toes where she keeps chewing them . I'm reluctant to take her to the vet as she has to go in a crush cage for her jabs and will not let the vet handle her .
Cat tails
Maybe the cone of shame for a few days? So she will break the cycle? I absolutely know that it is easier said then done... My cat is most likely allergic to something (along with all her other little issues) and keeps scratching her face. She has no eyebrows anymore... She's itchy all over, but her face and ears are the worst. I have a cortisone spray for her, but she absolutely detests it! It's very smelly and will sting. Whenever I apply it to her face she will start to drool. Poor thing. I don't think it's food or plant allergy. She might just be allergic to humans! Olly
I would definitely treat your cat one way or another, Eggasperated. My cat developed an allergy to harvest mites, and before I realised what was happening he lost all the fur off his tummy a couple of years ago - thankfully it grew back quite quickly! I now treat him every year. He hates the spray but it's only for a few minutes and it keeps the problem away.
LolaLayla
I first used Thornit on my dog's foot as she had been biting it and it was really successful as she stopped straight away. Recently she had quite brown wax in her ear and it fixed that too. A wonder powder
Eggasperated
Thank you DM I will get the Thornit's for her. I would definitely treat your cat one way or another, Eggasperated. I had another cat with this before and she did the same thing with her tummy; she had lots of tests and was allergic to loads of things. At least she could have steroid injections at the vet every 2 months, with Lily it would be impossible as she gets so stressed at the vets (traumatic experience before I got her I believe). Eggasperated
OMG what a palaver . Put a small amount of powder in a plastic bag and put the paw in the bag and work the powder into the paw and lower leg -there were so many feet, paws and claws waving about I think I might have dipped OH's foot in the bag by mistake ! Redwing
Thank you for that DM Milo the pony has been itching his ears, this may well help!
The Dogmother
Hope it helps Milo's lugs, Tasha. A friend's dog had an unidentified tummy rash, which confounded the vet, but we suspected was picked up in long grass... Thornit's sorted it and he smelled lovely too. Cat tails
I was thinking of getting this for my itchy cat, but was wondering about the smell. I would be using this on her head and she can't stand anything strong smelling.... So how smelly (lovely or not) is Thornits?
bluekarin
I have just got some. The smell isn't that bad at all. Much better than smelly ears To me, it smells fresh and clean.
The Dogmother
It has a sort of clean, antiseptic smell, which dissipate pretty quickly.
