gavclojak
I'm distraught, one of the new girls died today, she didn't want to come out of the coop this morning, by the time I came in from work she had gone:(( She didn't even get a chance bless her
mullethunter
She did get a chance gavclojak because you gave her one. As you said to someone else this week she was out of her cage and had seen the sky when she went. Of course you're upset but you should be proud of yourself for giving her a better place to end her days. Big hugs.
Ain't Nobody Here
Oh no, the poor little thing . At least she died in freedom and you gave her that.

Pottage
I'm so sorry She had a name and had felt the grass under her feet and seen the "world". She had more than many ex commercial girls ever get. Sending lots of hugs xxx
jimnpaula
I'm so sorry to hear this but like others have said, she got to experience freedom even if only for a short time.
gavclojak
Thanks everyone, and I know you, Paula had the same a little while ago. One consolation is she didn't suffer for long.

Bramble
Poor little Merryweather - such a lovely name too. Remember you gave her the chance of freedom and for the time spent with you she was warm safe and I'm sure very happy. Enjoy your other little girls and remember to give them Merryweather's share of the treats! Sleep tight Merryweather.

dancing cloud
So, so sorry My little Rosie only lived for five days of freedom and, like you, I couldn't help but think of all that she had missed. Both she and Merryweather, however, had names and faces of their own, and experienced kindness and love before they passed on. Free-range forever, Merryweather. sparkysmum
So very sorry to hear this sad news. You care so much for your little flock and I have no doubt that for the short time she was with you, she would have felt this. She did feel the sun, she did do chickeny things. You do a fab job. Take care. Axx

gavclojak
I'm so overwhelmed by everyone's kind comments, thank you. The other two are so full of life! Flora is a real character, she is straight over to me when I go to the run, fauna is a little more reserved but did eat a mealworm from my hand today. Fauna is definitely the top girl, doing a bit of food hogging, but it's not working as there are three food containers and only two chooks!! I think flora has a death wish, she paces up and down eyeballing the old big girls, she got her head through the fencing and was pushing her luck with the big girls but they are fairly nonchalant...she has dug a massive hole and found her first worms today, they are both laying eggs and put themselves to bed at dusk now, they snuggle up together in the nest box bit of the hutch which is too cute. I'm a lucky girl
mullethunter
They sound like right characters! You should get them chicken coats while their feathers are growing back
redsunset
Was gutted for you reading that tonight. Bless her. Lovely to hear the other two are thoroughly enjoying their freedom and very quickly leaning to normal everyday chook behaviour
gavclojak
Thanks redsunset, the lovely thing in I know you all genuinely mean it. flora and fauna meet each new day with a big stretch and flap of the wings(I say wings loosely!) they are the sweetest little souls and I'm so very proud of them. I have popped two small pots of crumb on either side if the dividing fence and the new girls are eating one side and the old girls the other. Flora & fauna are desperate to get out with the big girls.....all in good time, little ones
PixieDust
They will enjoy life for her. Maybe the move was too much for her. But as others said she didn't end her days in a cage having never seen daylight or grass. And those few days would have been like months to her.
