Luvachicken
At last my egg drought is over I have finally been blessed with a dainty little egg. I think Tilly laid it. It is very sweet but with a blood smear on it. I think first eggs can do that Well done Tilly Edited February 24, 2015 by Guest

mullethunter
What did you do with Tilly's eggs luvachicken? I had Amy's first one poached on toast, and used Penny's first two for creme caramel. Pekins don't look like they have any intention of laying any time soon

Pekins don't look like they have any intention of laying any time soon I scrambled them I just love them like that. Might poach a couple now that I have more than one Funny little pekins. I'm sure yours will start laying soon. Mind you my Tilly is a big girl so maybe that's why. Have yours got all of their red crowns yet ? mullethunter
Bernadette's head gear is getting a bit darker again I think. She did lay for a few weeks last September but has been moulting the last couple of months. No sign of any change in Shelley - her head still looks exactly the same as when she arrived at 10 weeks
Luvachicken
No sign of any change in Shelley - her head still looks exactly the same as when she arrived at 10 weeks Funny how they grow at different rates One of my lavender pekins is much more advanced in growth than the other and yet they were both from the same clutch. And Polly, who is meant to be older than the pekins looks the youngest of them all
Cat tails
I got two valentine eggs yesterday! One from Cinnamon (I think) and one from Ginger! Who hasn't laid since about November. It is tiny too! And Ginger is my chunkiest chicken by far.
Luvachicken
Yay, Cat tails, I'm so pleased you got eggs on Valentine's Day I only got one yesterday but very happy already today as I found two eggs next to each other. Going to try poaching them for tea. Have never, ever poached an egg in my life
Cat tails
Hahaha, I've never tried it the proper way either, but have a little poaching pouch. A sort of silicon dish that you can float in your pan. But I'm normally not bothered poaching because it takes way too long!
Purplemaniacs
Have never, ever poached an egg in my life I love poached eggs Luvachicken . My favourite is a lovely poached egg on top of toast with marmite on it. Delicious if you like marmite of course. Enjoy your tea. mullethunter
Luvachicken it's usually most successful with very fresh eggs so your today ones will be perfect. I put a drop of vinegar in a pan, then boiling water from the kettle and get it just simmering. Crack the eggs into a cup so I can tip them in quickly, then whizz ithe water round with a spoon to make a vortex (it usually goes everywhere ), tip the eggs in the middle then leave for about a minute and a half (until the White looks fairly set). Don't let the water boil fiercely or it'll bounce the delicate eggs about too much and break them up. Good luck - it's easy really! And enjoy
Luvachicken
Cat tails, I did have a couple of those silicon things but found them not to work too well for me so I gave them to my sister to try. I did use the spinning water technique with a drop of vinegar though. For my first attempt I was very happy and they tasted delicious As for marmite, I do like it, but don't think I'd like it with egg.
Cat tails
Hmmmm... Might need to try the swirling thing myself then. I'm always slightly confused that it takes sooo long before it's boiled.
Luvachicken
It didn't take too long Cat tails. I popped the eggs in just as bubbles started to appear in the water and then cooked them for 2 minutes. I drained them on paper towel so they didn't make my toast soggy. Cat tails
Using my silicon thingy, it took me over 5 minutes for my tiny bantam eggs! Will give it a go tomorrow!
Luvachicken
I only tried once with the silicon thing but I will definitely be doing it the traditional way more often. I did try to think of another use for the silicon things - quite good as corn scoops - but my sister was going to buy some so I said she could have mine. Not all they are CRACKED up to be
Purplemaniacs
As for marmite, I do like it, but don't think I'd like it with egg. You need to try it, it is far yummier than it sounds. Perhaps when you have lots of eggs Chrissie
