auntielizzie
Well, today I went to collect my four rescue girls from the BHWT I wasn't at all sure what to expect when I got there, but it was all very well organised and very calm. After a couple of minutes we were all on our way home - me, my mum (who came along to keep me company in the car) and four little hens. We got back home at about 4 pm. Unfortunately today's weather wasn't anywhere near as lovely as yesterday's, but nevertheless we popped them in to the eglu run and inspected them one by one and sat in outside in the chilly afternoon to watched them. They aren't too bad feather wise really; obviously varying degrees of baldness, but in patches rather than all over. They look a bit moth eaten if you know what I mean, but the main thing that struck me was the paleness of their very floppy combs, wattles and faces. Over the course of the last three-ish hours, they have one by one discovered the glug and grub and have drunk some water and eaten a few pellets. They have pecked at but not eaten the grass - I have a feeling the grass will soon be eaten One of them was attempting to have a dust bath on the grass - bless her. I could swear one of their combs is starting to go read already They had been very quiet until bedtime; in fact my two other girls didn't even seem to notice them they were so quiet! Anyway, I've not long come indoors having managed to get them in to the eglu for the night. I had been talking to them quite a bit, which they seem to like, and I managed to pick two of them up as they came right up close. I put them in to the eglu myself then put a torch in with them and the other two sort of followed them in So, they're all tucked up for the night I've got a day off work tomorrow too

auntielizzie
I knew I would be asked for photos I did take some and managed to get them on Photobucket, but I can't for the life of me work out how to post them on the forum As for names, they are Elsie, Edna, Ethel and Edith (Although as they are Essex girls, I thought about naming them after the TOWIE girls - Gemma, Lydia, Fern and Chloe )
Cat tails
Congrats! In photobucket you will find ready made links. If you click on a specific photo, they appear on the right hand side of your screen. Then just copy paste!
gavclojak
Ah I did your girls rehoming today! We took well over 1000 girls from the colony unit and they all found their forever homes, and a few chickens of fate that I picked up on the way. I'm Home now, had a hot shower and am knackered but an so grateful to all you who took these lucky ladies home, you deserve a massive thank you x
mullethunter
Brilliant Auntie Lizzie. Looking forward to photo's. I'm surprised no-one has girls named after TOWIE actually. Or posh girls with 'Made In Chelsea' names.
auntielizzie
] After much confusion and effort, I hope I have uploaded some photos I'm afraid I'm rather technologically challenged

Chickabee
Ah have you had any eggs yet. Love happy endings. When you want to down load photos from photobucket use the url called thumbnail. The photos will be posted in a much smaller format, if anyone wants to see them larger, they just need to click on the image
Orangediva
Aww they look so happy! My friends picked up their BHWT trio on Saturday and they think their combs are reddening up and they look more feathered already - after two days! They are already madly in love with them
auntielizzie
I have to say, what they lack in looks they make up for in personality They are such sweet little things. I'm in love with them already Apart from Elsie, I can't tell them apart though Although having said that, only one of them has a "normal beak"; one has a bit of top beak missing, one has a crooked beak and the other has a longer bottom beak. Definitely all their combs are reddening and only two of them still have the bright white ear thingies; can't wait to see them blossom

auntielizzie
Hi gavlojak, were you actually there at Munsden
mullethunter
I see what you mean by moth eaten. I haven't seen such dark rescue girls before - they're usually much more gingery. Looking forward to seeing how they end up
redsunset
Aww, love those pics. I take my hat off to those who find in their hearts to rehome them. Unfortunately no such thing up here as I'd take great pleasure in watching them turn into normal chooks after a few weeks. The satisfaction must be tremendous. gavclojak
Hi gavlojak, were you actually there at Munsden no I was working with the kent team but all three teams were at the farm together, we pick the hens together as one team and then devide all of the hens between the three teams My job at the farm is to take the hens from the actual colony units and pass them to be crated so I would have picked your girls!! It's not pleasant but it is what it is and it's worth it to see girls go off to their retirement homes So happy for them:)) Edited March 10, 2015 by Guest
