Another ebay question, one I'm not answering

Recommended Posts

Had a few items finish on ebay yesterday, none sold and that's OK as I tend to price as buy it now then I'm not disappointed if they go in one bid. I generally look at similar items and see what price has been paid then price my item accordingly, so not being greedy. However, one particular item, a rather nice late 80's vintage shirt, has a question on it, after the auction has ended. The buyer wants me to sell the item to her at a fiver (it was priced at £7.95 with free postage and similar items sold for around the £10 mark) as she is poor and only has that much in her paypal account.

I'm tempted to say if she has no money then she should sell what she doesn't need to raise the pennies for what she does need. A month ago I managed to sell three pairs of my old hardly worn sandals and made more than enough for one sensible black leather pair (also off ebay).

I have decided not to reply.

Thats just plain rude....the price is what it is and if she can't/won't 'buy it now' then thats up to her. With actual postage of £2.80 it sounds like a very good deal at the 'buy it now' price anyway!!!!

I recently listed quite a few items on Gumtree Oxford as we have had a bit of a reorganisation of bedrooms and ended up adding 'no offers' to all the ads as people were contacting me with really stupid offers (in one case less than half the asking price) on what were all very reasonably priced items to start with (as I hadn't wanted things hanging round!)

Having said that, I have been guilty of making an offer on Gumtree but only as I felt the item was vastly overpriced in the first place; I am always happy to pay a reasonable price wherever I buy from but do object to being ripped off! :shameonu:

Thats cheeky!

I always start all my auctions at 99p, as I think I get more interest that way. Also if you have no bids within 12 hours of the end, you can just end the listing & try again in a few weeks.

Buy it now is useful too though, & I have sold a lot to people who I think may have just hit the button after a glass or 2 of wine

As you have her user id, try searching for her on the site & see if she has made lots of purchases recently. Then you can see if she is skint or not :?

Also if you did want to reply you could remind her that her offer is in breach of eBay policy & she could get herself booted off should she be reported.

I had a Zara coat I brought in Italy for £100, it was unavailable in England and was stunning but a little tight so I put it on eBay buy it now for £70.00. I had an offer for £30 so I declined then got a rude email saying I was this and that and "F**** you and your coat!" I was gobsmacked! I emailed back thanking her for her kind comments.

What's more, I recently had someone email and ask for a partial refund of 26p which was the difference in the postage I charged and the price I charged the buyer. He said he was asking before leaving feedback so my decision would be reflected in the feedback he left... I said no and reminded them it also includes the cost of packaging etc and he had agreed the postage charge when he bid on the £3.00 Wallis blouse!! So annoying I mean who is that desperate for 26p

I listed some plants a while ago on ebay, some sold straight away, but one lot didn't. I had an email from a bidder, before the auction closed to say if I didn't sell them in the auction would I sell them for less afterwards. I didn't reply and simply relisted and sold the second time round.

I have started to list my items with a price that includes P&P to avoid stupid feedback about postage charges. I generally only charge the RM price for postage, but still get people leaving poor feedback about p&P costs, so doing "freepost" and simply including the cost in the listing avoids that!

That is a cheek about the 26p postage difference, especially as they know how much they're going to be charged for P&P before they place the bid. Also, it's P&P, therefore a little bit over is something I consider to be reasonable-sellotape and time taken for packaging things up is part of the cost in the real world...

Thanks for your comments, I never thought about the rule breach, funnily enough.

That is just incredible  Not sure what part of post and packing that people think is unjustified. I believe in the US they are happy to pay reasonable packing charges. Here they think everything should be free, hence the reason I usually sell with free postage.

Had he gone ahead & left negative or derogatory feedback for you you could report him to eBay for feedback bullying (I think that what they call it), especially as you have prof that he said refund me or I will neg you, or words to that effect.
