The Dogmother
We are prepared in the office - the directors sent round a directive yesterday that today is a charity dress down day (£1 each to charity, so that's at least £250 raised) theme is 'holiday wear but keep it decent'. Am wearing my casual uniform of shorts, t shirt and flip flops.

The promised thunder at 2.00pm didn't materialise and our next rain looks to be around 11.00am tomorrorw by which time it will be significantly cooler anyway! All this and the plumber isn't going to mend the shower till Monday
The Dogmother
Hmmm, the weather predictions are conflicting - the Weather Channel app clearly shows storms in the small hours, but the BBC one shows nowt
Valkyrie
Well we were supposed to get a 57% chance of storms from 10pm today, but an update has shown it to be single figures. I think the main areas are South East and up through the Midlands now. Very hot but very windy at the moment.
Cat tails
We had a temperature record in the Netherlands. Reached up to 40,6 degrees today. Previous record was 39,6 degrees. That record is of yesterday! The real previous record was 38,8 and dates from the 1940’s.... House temperature is up to 24 today. But the temperature is not going to drop below 24 degrees outside tonight. So no chance of cooling the house down a bit.
patsylabrador
It's currently 37° here. I think that will be the peak, I hope so. One of my boys works in a supermarket depot in the yard shunting lorries etc. He just texted that the temperature is at 45°. One of my other boys is an EMT and their vehicle is reading 38°.
Cat tails
45 degrees is horrible! Can’t he go on a heat strike? Before he has a heat stroke!
soapdragon
Now 31 degrees in the bedroom - the only place that we have a reliable indoor thermometer. Enough already! When OH and I were in Egypt BC (before children - we are not that old!!) it got up to 43 but it was totally different - dry and not humid - and we coped by going out early and having a rest in the middle of the day then out again as the weather cooled off. If I post again later in the year complaining about the cold and wet could someone please come round and hit me on the head with something heavy? Thanks.
The Dogmother
I'l get my wet fish ready for the slapping Looking at the lightening maps (www.lightningmaps.org - yes, the US spelling ) the storms are coming up off France and heading off up our east coast. Damn
soapdragon
Looking forward to the wet fish, DM, as long as they are straight out of the 'fridge! Let's hope that Thor can manage to do his bit here....there's no air at all and it's like trying to breathe through a damp blanket. As you say, weather forecasts are conflicting apart from tomorrow being much cooler. Just got to get through tonight - hold that thought! Valkyrie
I thought it looked funny - I've always added an e and then I thought I must have it wrong, so HAH! I'm going back to the eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Isolated strikes around us but doesn't look particularly stormy clouds, some very interesting ones though and deliciously cool. I love the stegosaurus clouds though. The last one is actually directly above - so pretty!
The Dogmother
Beautiful clouds Kezza Nowt here yet, but the breeze is cooler. The neighbour jsut got bac and says that she drove from Cambridge through a lovely storm.
Valkyrie
Still odd bits of thunder and lightning around - closest was Tiverton. Here's a sunset pic. Meanwhile Dorset has a little storm. I've not spoken to my mum - there have been quite a few strikes around her!
patsylabrador
Last night was horrible. Hot and clammy, just awful. It started to cool around 3am and I could hear thunder way off in the distance and I was pretty jealous. It's nice now with a cool breeze and some rain. Just as I pressed the submit button there was a flash of lightning and a roll of thunder. I love that lightning app by the way. Thanks for the link. The Dogmother
It's a cool 18deg this morning, slept quite well and looking forward to rain this morning. Not a drop last night though.
Cat tails
Hot and muggy here all night too. At 5 am it was still 23 degrees, but at least finally “cooler” than indoor temperature. So got up and opened up all windows again and went back to bed for a bit. At least there was a breeze this morning, which was better than the muggy morning yesterday. mullethunter
There was a fascinating post from the met office on Instagram about a ‘heat burst’. Has been around 18 degrees and cloudy where I’ve been working today - I had goose pimples! Suns out and warmer now though.
soapdragon
Cooler here but still very muggy and sticky. No storms forecast, sadly.
Valkyrie
Had to put a jumper on to do the birds last night. But pleasant today, although this afternoon had a bit of heat while I was doing the spuds. Cool again this evening.
mullethunter
Didn’t even occur to me to take a jumper to work today and I actually had goose pimples in the shade this morning! Warm in the sun this afternoon though.
The Dogmother
It was much cooler here yesterday, still walked the dogs in a t shirt though. Had rain over night, only light stuff, but it's damp this morning, and COOLER
soapdragon
Rain at 3.00am..........cooler outside but the house temps remain high - still 27 in the bedroom in spite of open windows for the last 48 hours. YS should be sailing this morning but the forecast on OH's gizmo says 70% chance of rain between now and 12 and the RAF Benson forecast says 10%! Take your pick!
