Brindles chooks
Hi all, I got two new girls today from my usual breeder, but she was busy and I'm not sure her assistant was up to speed with the breeds and colours. She said these two were a blue Orpington and a silver laced Wyandotte - neither looks quite right. Is the orp lavender? Or lavender cuckoo maybe? And the other - I'm thinking barnevelder but don't know which colour! They're both gorgeous so I was happy to buy them regardless, just interested to know what they are... TIA! Brindles chooks
Can't work out how to shrink them, but if you click through you get the whole pic. Thanks xx
Daphne
You are right, she is not a blue orp, I can't see well enough to say for sure but she does look like a lavender cuckoo to me as well.
sjp
the black ones not a dotte the comb wrong it doesn't have the look of a barnie either to be honest I'd be thinking a cross of some sort a couple of photos of them up and about might help
Brindles chooks
Thanks both, I'll try and get a couple of better photos. Fairy certain the orp's lavender cuckoo now, thanks. She's just been letting me stroke her in the sunshine, tamest girl I've ever had!
Brindles chooks
Blimey she's hard to photograph! Here's a couple more. Legs are turning yellow I think. Neck a perfect beetle black - feathers closer to double lace than anything else I think, but lacing is greyish.
Charlottechicken
Sorry, don't know what they are but they are gorgeous girls!
Cat tails
The black neck reminds me of a Lakenvelder or Vorwerk. But would also expect a black tail. But if so, definitely a cross.
Luvachicken
Very pretty but sorry, I have no idea what they are
The Dogmother
Lovely girls, but neither of them is a Wyandotte, and I have doubts whether the lavender barred one is a full orp either, but it's hard to tell from the photos. How old did they say they are? They look older than POL too.
mullethunter
I think the dark ones face does look like a Barnevelder - colour is silver pencilled I think
Cat tails
It might indeed be a Barnevelder. My guess is a silver double laced, but judging from the photo's a older than POL. http://www.kippenencyclopedie.nl/php/index.php?title=Barnevelder
Brindles chooks
Thanks all. Yeah they're supposed to be pol but do seem pretty much fully grown already... I guess we'll see when they start laying. I definitely think silver laced or pencilled barnevelder for the black. Can I ask what makes you doubt she's a full orp? This breeder specialises in orps and Cochins so I'd be surprised (and put out!) if she wasn't pure bred. Xxx
The Dogmother
It's hard to tell, as I said, without seeing full pictures of them standing, but neither of them look like those breeds, but that's just my opinion. They both look at least a year old to me. Have you had birds from this breeder before?
Daphne
As DM says it is hard to tell everything from the photos as the last pic shows darker plumage on my iPad than the first batch, making her look more like a blu than a lav, altho the barring makes me confident she is indeed a lav cuckoo. I can't see anything which makes me doubt she is a pure bred orp, but a photo of the whole bird, head to tail, from the side would confirm. She does seem to have feathers coming through still, which would indicate she's had a moult, so she is quite likely to be older than POL.
