Best sounds

Recommended Posts

There are sounds that are cosy, make you smile and feel good even if in themselves they're not necessarily nice.

I was having a lovely day gardening on my own with just the chickens for company - bliss.

Then some kid began their trumpet practice - it was wonderful and awful at the same time. He/She absolutely murdered the National Anthem but I loved it. I've heard all sorts of instruments being practiced over the years and it always raises a smile.

I might have muddled my practice with my practise but I'm too lazy to care.

I like lawn mowers too, but not next door, he gets out his petrol strimmer, then the mower, then the leaf blower, very noisy weekend mornings. The distant hum of a lawn mower in a warm day is a sign of summer though. I also love a good cheerful busker too, again on a warm day. I think that I just like warm days and birdsong really

I like the sound of a cork leaving a bottle. 8)

You and me both, Olly

I love standing outside YS room in the evening listening to him snore........I know he is tucked up safe and happy!

My boys laughing together makes me laugh too!

Lawn mowers are oddly soothing.

The best sound of all, though, is the sea - most especially when I am on Bigbury beach with the boys (which I will be in 4 weeks time  )

I love the 'gur gur gur' noise you get as you pour a new bottle of wine, before the wine comes out 8)

And the sound of waves on a shingle beach as they pull back out to sea....shusssssssshhhhhhh

Whoever decided that it was a good idea to let small children loose with recorders and violins did no one any favours

The only thing worse than an over-enthusiastic school recorder band is a solo bagpiper, IMHO. It's an instrument best listened to through binoculars... A massed pipe band, however, is completely different!

Oh I totally understand the traffic. We have the house to ourselves and are decorating the front bedroom to move into because it faces onto a main road. I love the noise of traffic, the tubes and planes from Northolt and Heathrow.....I find the dark quiet of natural places very unsettling!!!

We live by a main road which is only quiet in the dead of night and on a Sunday night, we find it weird when we are away somewhere quiet and dark. I grew up in the deepest countryside but my OH doesn't like the deep quiet and darkness of it at all. I love the change, but you never feel isolated where we live.

Bird song is my absolute favourite noise and sheep.

I like lawn mowers too but really long to hear one of those old pushy ones - when I was small one of the neighbours always used to cut his grass as I was trying to go to sleep and it reminds me of lovely summers.

Another noise I like is those Greek cricket things that make a noise at night.
