Little Sunday afternoon project!

Sooooo...

Yay me! I'm not tackling the run bit 'til the OH is back from a business trip. We need to get a couple of tarpaulins and a few little other bits for the set-up, but then we should be able to get some chicks in a week or so!

Also, if you're about to build your own cube, I just want to say: there is no shame in crying when trying to screw bits into place!

In fairness, ours is second-hand and was already partially assembled so I can't complain too much, but like everything 'flat-pack', you often find you need some gentle persuasion and a little cussing if you're doing it on your own.

It wasn't too bad. I'm only assuming I have been successful because it looks like a cube!

Love the techie bit with the breezeblocks levelling it...my kind of DIY  Actually, At Franklin Towers, DIY means Destroy it Yourself  We have long since ceased to do DIY and now do GAMI (Get A Man In!) in the long term its cheaper! As soon as OH gets the toolbox out (and no, that's not a euphamism :shameonu: ) I need a stiff drink.

Haha, I actually spat out a little tea reading that. It made me laugh!

The bricks were just a temporary solution to end the aforementioned crying when I was trying to simultaneously balance the cube, and screw the panels in to place!

It honestly wasn't that bad, although I was explaining to the nice people we bought it from that I have been known to buy IKEA furniture and, despite following every single step in the manual 'correctly', end up with it back to front! :/

I up-cycle furniture, that's generally about as DIY as I get now. I'm doing all the designs and schemes for the new house - but then we have agreed we'll throw money at the problem and make it go away.

I wish we'd got a man in for our cube! As for DIY - we bought a TV stand. It was quite heavy and I said to OH that I'd help him. He decided he couldn't wait for me and started it. He'd screwed a couple of bits together before I found him. They were back to front. I told him and he said that's what the instructions said. I read the instructions and said they are back to front. He wasn't happy and continued. Only when he tried to assemble more bits and needed my help to lift it, did he realise they were back to front. Usually any DIY is done by me. Including putting in a new loft hatch because he'd sawn the MDF the wrong way round - and we had another trip to the shops for new MDF. Loft hatch now in place with loft ladder sorted.

Our cube never really has fitted very well - the amount of green plastic that has been sheared off by pushing the top back over the years wasn't very good - so now I just open it far enough to get my hands in to remove the back. As far as cleaning goes - I duck.

Or evicting your dad because he wants to do it "his" way..

Cattails are you my sister?

Come on AndyRoo man up - I did my (also second hand) Cube and run on my own with no tears! To be fair I had already done an Eglu Go and WIR before so knew what I was letting myself in for. But if the Cube made you cry - just wait until you get to the run clips :twisted:

Hehe.

Well, I am pretty sure that was adventurous as I wanted to get with the Eglu... although we did discuss possibly respraying it in funky colours to customise it once it fades a bit more. I was thinking something in metallic black with flames down the side like a race car!

You've got a big WIR haven't you?

I have a 3 x 2 lo rise. The first time it took me and OH almost 3 hours in a rush as I was getting dark! Now I know how the clips are supposed to go and how the pole clips are configured with the mesh panels and poles it's much easier and I can do it on my own in about an hour.

Not sure if I could do a full height one on my own.

Yeah, we have a 2m x 6m WIR - old style. I got a little bit confused and managed to mistake the roof panels for the side panels, so I had to take down the top layers and switch them over, which slowed me down a little.

It's fine, now that I've figured out what I am doing, I think I'll be fine with the rest of it. I have learned to treat cable ties as if they were something precious to me!
