Shar pei puppies!

Recommended Posts

Last night someone i know from a while ago came around to discuss some building work on our house.

We hardly talked about the building work as me and ross were into the same stuff as him, ross ended up showing him how to use and apple mac, and we talke and talked.

Then he said he had Sharpe Puppies, [ the wrinkly ones] and i said how much i loved them and have wanted one, he showed us pictures and showed us him at Crufts with his dog Jenna.

ANyway- Then another of my friends came rond unannounced with her baby son, ross showed my male friend out.

And came back in and said : He said '' if you ever want to suprise Laura , jennas having puppies in November, and you can have one for £400''

Ross and I dont think its a good idea to have a Dog just yet, but im still excited. How nice was that of him though!

Does anyone have a Sharpe? Didnt mrs bertie have one?

Hi Laura, no Delilah is an English Mastiff / Dogue de Bordeaux cross although she's quite pften mistaken for Sharpe as her face is all wrinkly! I don't know much about them, wether they're good with children or not, Delilah is very very good, bit of mouthing with her nice sharp baby teeth but so tolerant and dopey! Not sure I would have taken on a dog when H was only 10 months or so so I reckon you're wise to wait, specially if number 2 might shortly be in the offing.....

My dream dog is a pug! But when we eventually move in a few years time, then I'd like a St. Bernerd too & call it Ludwig! A friend of mine had one in Austria called Wolfgang & I loved him to bits, especially when he took me for a walk!!! He was very loving & huge and used to snore like mad!

So I will get a pug first & then my St. Bernerd!

The best dog to have with very small children is in my opinion a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I grew up with those & also whippets!

Ooooo lovely little puppies!!!!

We had our name down for an Italian Spinone just as I fell for H so we had to cancel it but I'd LOVE one of those. Think if I bought any more animals home OH might flip though so keeping my head down at the minute. Would quite like a tortoise tho, always wanted one of them.....

I had a Pug, but they have bad breathing problems, sometimes its not even covered by pet insurance. Our Pug called Puk had loads of problems and basically suffocated to death. there soooo cute though, but they pass wind ALOT

The more squashed the nose is, the more inbred they are and the more problems they have.

And Mrs B, My next door neighbout has an Italian Spinoni and they arent good with chiildren, and they are so stupid, even though they are meant to Hunt Point and retrieve there stupid.

Pugs are wonderful but shed quite a lot. My Xena is half pug half jack russell. I think this is a really good mixture. She is good with the hens, eats mice ( :( ) and has the good points of pugs. She does look funny though.

I'll have to put up some photos. Curly tail and quite fat but a little jack russell face!!

Hercules is half pug half pekingese. He barks more and is more lap doggy than Xena. I think she has got just enough terrier in her for me!

My jack russell puppy Milo has too much energy :) but I love him.

Pugs are wonderful with children as well. They are noisy though, not from barking but tend to burp and trump alot!

Oh also they snore but I absolutely love it.

I really miss my old lurcher, Jezebel :( I love most dogs, but would love another lurcher or a wire haired jack russell, I like working dogs.

You'd love my brothers dog then Clare.

When they bought him (Homer) they thought they were buying a Standard Cocker Spaniel, but they infact bought a Working Cocker. After a few months they couldn't understand why they couldn't tire him out and he was much, much, much more intelligent than my Mum's two daft cockers. After a bit of research and speaking to some Cocker experts, they discovered what breed he was.

He's a gorgeous dog. Never tires, loves to be given challenges and is so clever. He's very hard work as he never rests, and needs more runs out in the open than other dogs. Rather them than me, but they love him to pieces.

£1000 !!

Is that what they are going for now!? I think that is quite a lot of money. I am hoping to let Xena have puppies next year. I am prepared to keep the puppies or just let them go to friends and family. I am not sure if would be able to sell them.

I think bulldogs are even more than that for puppies. There was one in our local paper for £1700!!

Bulldogs can be expensive because they often need a c section. Pugs are expensive because they are pretty stupid and often lie on their own pups and kill them  , so the breeders have to sleep with the mum and pups to listen out for pups in distress.

Having pups is so expensive if you are going to feed, worm and generally care for mum and pups well. I really wouldn't bother doing it just for the fun of it. On the rare occassions that I breed I sell pups on condition that they should not be bred from. I only breed if I want a dog to show and then I travel 100s of miles to find the right stud dog for the "Ooops, word censored!". There are so many unwanted dogs. I don't think people should breed unless they are prepared to take on, for life, the responsibility for up to 15 pups. Even small breeds can have very large litters.

Did I hear someone mention my name :)

Yes we have a Shar pei, hes lovely......very gentle and protective, he used to sit by my sisters babies pram and watch over her.......

They seem to get a bad name for being aggressive, but all the ones I have ever seen are the total opposite, they where used as guard dogs as they can be trained to pretty much anything (if they chose too) :) so I think thats where that idea came from.......

£400 seems very cheap for one if its parents have been entered into crufts, one thing to look out for is that it (the pup) is registered with the kennel club as a lot of breeders restrict the dogs they sell so that their pups cannot be registered. A registered breeder also agrees to breed out the problems and breed stronger dogs and not dogs that have suffered from breed specific illnesses.

I would definately recommend one to anyone as they are really lovely dogs, but anyone thinking about getting one must realise that they can and do suffer from skin problems and other illnesses plus they dont live as long as other breeds. Most have their eyes tacked to help with eye problems but they can also suffer with their eyes.

A lot of breeders do choose to sell cheaper if the puppies aren't registered because registering puppies costs and also to discourage people from buying the puppies as breeding machines. If you don't want to breed or show then reigistration papers aren't needed. As long as you're sure the dog is pedigree then that's all that matters. It's easy enough to register a non pedigree puppy if you want to rip people off.

Hey, it is cheap, but its because he knows me and knows how much i love them. Plus he would like to have another young dog to train. His wife said hes not allowed to keep anymore unless they cant get homes.

I love them, but now isnt the right time.

Can we see a pic of your dog please?
