Trish
Well done Red and thank you for the inspiration. It's great to hear that someone has acheived what you have without having to go mental and live on just celery juice and running daily marathons. Given what you've acheived so far I'm sure you'll get to whatever goal you feel happy with

PurpleHen
Red - WELL DONE You are an inspiration - I have no will power and it shows I will think of you and try to sort it out. Does anyone have any suggestions for taking lunch to work that doesn't involve bread (or TOO much prep) We do have a basic kitchen at work and a fridge we can leave things in.... PurpleHen
Actually - I am going to repost this request to the "All thing Nice" section - as I want my lunches to be nice
Lesley
Well, I don't think I'll have a problem much longer - I'm never going to have time to eat again - ever! One of our favourite meals when I was being good was a poached egg and bacon salad. - loads of saled veg topped with grilled lean bacon cut into pieces and a poached egg. On days where I had to go into a clients for work I used to have a hard boiled egg with it instead and take some dressing for the salad (honey, balsamic vinegar and olive oil)
buffie
Well done Red! Funny, I was thinking of you just today. Buffie will be so pleased to hear how you've been doing. Take care and good luck with the wedding. I need to catch up with so much but great to hear the message of non diet and no meal skipping, well done. I've got 2 clients that I am retraining at the moemnt. I hate how dieting behaviour takes hold and causes so much trauma to people. Anyone doing their steps still? If you had and you've gone off the boil dust of your pedometer, no excuses weathers good and we have long days, come on..... BBx
Guest
Well, I was very pleased to have done 13500 steps on Wednesday. I'm usually managing 6500 - 9000 a day now. OH is walking over 5 miles a day still

red
Thanks for all the messages of support and congrats - I posted my achievements in the hope that it may inspire people and it certainly seems to have done that It really is possible and it's never too late. I spent quite a few months feeling really bad because I had decided I ought to lose weight about a year and a half ago but then OH had some ill health and I just carried on the way I was. If I'm honest with myself I know I made excuses. Now I realise how easy it is it would be very easy to think "I wish I'd started back then because I would have possibly reached my goal by now if I had" BUT the key is to not dwell on what might have been. I didn't do it then and that's that. So today's message of encouragement is :- Start afresh today - don't dwell on what you may or may not have done - take each day as it comes - enjoy yourself and your food (I had pub fish and chips last night ). For me the aim each day is to adjust my habits NOT to lose weight - that's just a happy side-effect! It's all about balancing the good and bad eating habits. It's not about depriving yourself - You can still have nice things (I had some Tiramisu too! ) just not all the time. In fact you enjoy them more when you do have them. Mel (& Paul)
Thanks for the encouragement Red (ahem, wont mention the pizza I had for lunch............. ) I am now doing 10 crunches and 10 leg lifts (eacy leg) - gosh I had forgotton how flabby and flobby and wibbly wobbly I was - definitely cant use the "muscle weighs more than fat" excuse My difficulties is the "naughties". a handful of peanuts here, a sniblet (or more............) of cheese there, a whole packet of Haribo Starburst (and we are not talking the mini bats ).......... I try so hard and then fail I WILL do it. (hopefully...........)
Guest
Mel, that sounds just like me! And I'm another 'whole bag of haribo' eater! One of the problems is being too hard on myself so that when my will breaks, I go over the top. Sensible eating is definitely the way to go - a little of anything never did anyone any harm. I find though that if I keep off the chocolate (like in Lent) I lose the craving. Even in Lent I manage to keep up some sort of sugar intake, so I don't lose the sugar craving. And then there's the tiredness and not having the right things in your cupboards or time to prepare the meal. A|ll of these contribute to the 'I need something now' impulse. Then I feel guilty and think, well I won't have lunch then because I've eaten enough already. Then of course I haven't eaten the right things and the hunger kicks in again mid-afternoon, thus destroying plans for dinner! Taking control and making it a priority is the way to go, but it's very hard to do. Edit: Ginette!
Chicken on a mission
[quote="Mel (& Paul) I am now doing 10 crunches and 10 leg lifts (eacy leg) It says a lot for me that I misread this as 10 Crunchies I agree with everything the guest said

Chicken on a mission
We have had a really bad day today. I don't get ill very often but very early this morning my hubby had to call out the emergency doctor. The long and short of it is that my GP thinks I may have gall bladder stones. I have had tests today and need to have a scan done. This is mainly down to me being 6 stone overweight and my poor diet. In December my hubby was diognosed with Diabetes hense all the changes we have been making to our diet although this has come to late for both of us now. If you find that your friends and family are being politically correct by saying that you don't need to lose weight but you know that you do, ignore them and do something NOW. My weight has gone on at a rate of about 1/2 stone a year. Not a lot is it and it's very easy to do so please don't fall into the trap we are in. One thing my GP did say is that I would benefit from 'Lighter Life' which is a programme for the clinically obesse. Having had a read up on them I would normally have given them I wide berth because it is a very low calorie diet for weight loss of about a stone a month. But because my GP recommended it, I am waiting to hear back from them as to how much all this is going to cost. On eBay the food packs alone are going for about £70 for a weeks worth and that's without all the counselling For those of you suggesting the healthy eating thing, we do that already for my daughter but when she isn't around I have problems. Food to me means everything from a reward to a pick-me-up so it isn't just a case of going on a diet. The no-nonsense 'you can only have this' approach will work for me because I need that strictness. It's now just a case of how much will all this cost and how long will it take us to get the money together. To all of you, please do something now before it is too late and ignore all your friends and family that tell you that you are being silly about wanting to lose that 8lbs you put on. Do it now! PurpleHen
COAM - I do feel sorry for you, I know what pain you are in. I had the same problem last year and a scan revealed 3 gall stones. So in January I underwent keyhole surgery and they took my gall bladder out. If you have to go down that route - let me know and I will PM you with some advice. On the up side - I don't have any of the problems some people do have once their gall bladders have been removed - there isn't anything I can't eat now, including chocolate (unfortunately - for all the reasons you mentioned in your post). You have reminded me why I should be trying to stick to eating better,
Sheilaz
Oh, Thalia, I'm sorry you've had such a bad day & felt so ill. Your post was so honest & brave, I'm sure a lot of us would recognise some of the food attitudes that you describe. How you tackle this is up to you, but I just want to offer my care & support. Today has been a real shake up, & it's kind of you to think of urging others not to get into this situation. For you, perhaps this may be the turning point, today is an enormous step in coming to terms with your position, and facing up to the best way to tackle your health problems. I can just imagine that you do all the healthy things for your daughter, but don't look after yourself, and the binge comfort food is such a hard thing to break. However, some good advice about managing that part of it could be the best thing to come of this. I'm sure if you can get help with that, you'll make some positive progress. Hope the pain eases off, and wish you all the best, starting with lots of hope & strength, tons of love, xx
AnnieP
Best wishes from me too Thalia. It sounds like you have hit rock bottom, but now is the start of better things to come. I think you are a brave person: Saying what you did takes courage, so I am sure with support you will get through the difficulties that lie ahead. I am sure we all recognise some of the things you said in ourselves: its part of being human. Just remember, that although we don't know you personally, we are always here to offer support. Sometimes its easier to say things to people you don't really know, so come and rant whenever you feel the need! Keep smiling!
The Managing Director
Ohh good luck Thalia and at least it sounds like you have a supportive GP, a relative of ours had gallstones last year and it took their gp a year to diagnose it even though the symptoms were classic. I'm sure Rosemary Conleys career as a fitness guru began after she had a gallstone problem and decided to go on a fat free diet rather than have surgery and look where she has ended up so maybe this will be a turning point for you too (not that I'm suggesting you try that route just saying there will be a bright side somewhere I hope) Take care and don't be too hard on yourself
