Cinnamon
I am wondering if the new chicken run has increased the value of our house at all? Maybe there should be an Omlet property page - chicken friendly homes for sale
chocchick
I think the fact our lawn is now a mud bath and has chicken poo all over it could put people off our property if we sold it Unless they like chickens
Mel (& Paul)
Well we wouldnt want to sell our house to people who didnt love chickens. They arent nice at all

soufflé
Glad to catch up on all your news Lesley - it is so exciting for you. Haven't had much chance to join in the forum lately - we've been tidying our house every five minutes (or so it seems) ready to show to potential buyers. Hooray because we've sold it now - no more tidying! Exchange a week on Friday and complete sometime in April. Motorhome here we come!
Lesley
Hope your exchange went better than ours Sue? Update: We thought we were ready to exchange last week - and the week before, but the searches threw up a report issued by the Environment Agency dating back to 1993. We knew part of the site had been used for landfill - it was a disused quarry. We know that the site was checked 3 times a week by the County Council/Local Authority. The final check by the EA in 1993 was fine but the inspector added one sentence at the end of the report - " there is a quantity of waste on site, which does not comply with the licence " He did not qualify this sentence with "requires remedial action" or "does not require remedial action" The waste was 'on site' - not in the landfill. It obviously didn't require any action but it is not written anywhere. The land was filled by the owner with a view to raising livestock and selling through the Farm Shop to the public - which they did. The waste consisted of waste that the owner would not allow in the landfill and it was removed. There is a stream through the property which runs through into the village and ponds which are stocked with fish - any problem would have shown by now. The landfill was tested and so the owner is trying to get that report from the Local Authority. The solicitor asked the EA if they had any reports relating to after Sept.2004 (when they sent the 1993 one) - EA "cannot reply to a letter within 20 days" Also - the solicitor had to inform our lender - we are waiting to see which way the Building Society jumps. If they are happy to wait for the testing reports and a further letter from the EA, then it could all happen next week (or not ). If they want as full site survey then it could take up to £7000 and a lot more time Eight weeks of alternating between and is very tiring and we would just like to know where we stand. The sellers have furniture in storage and are ready to go - we have stuff in storage and are ready to go - and it's all costing both sides money We have potatoes chitting in the shed (don't say that in a hurry ) - they need a home! My immune system has taken a battering (lurching from one take-away to another - with decent meals in between) and I've had a chest infection since Wednesday and am now adding a cold to it Carl's episode of illness will probably wait until the most inopportune moment over the next couple of weeks
Nicola H
Oh Lesley sounds like a real hassle I do hope things get sorted soon..........Take care of yourself, I think G&B choc. is good for chest infections so eat as much as you can...........Lets pray everybody gets a move on and you get a completion date soon......Good luck. Cate in NZ
Lesley it sounds like a complete pain.... I do hope it resolves very quickly. Good luck. I agree with the G&B's for a chest infection
Linda
I do sympathise. I'm in the middle of a house-buying nightmare too. It's so frustrating when everything is out of your control and you have to rely on these various agencies to get their act together. I hope it is resolved very soon so you know what you are doing. Living in limbo does take its toll on you. Be kind to yourself - you deserve special treats for coping so well with it.
Martin B
Only just found this topic! What can I say the handling of things has been a bit of a disaster for both sides but the farm looks B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L! I hope it is worth all of the wait! ---Martin---
Sheilaz
Thanks for the update Lesley, I'm sorry it's become so dragged out, esp. when you, & everyone else, have been so efficient up until EA. Uncertainty about things outside your control is the worst thing, isn't it? So, hope you & Carl can put yourselves first a bit this week. It's hard though when you can't take your mind off it all with the veg. plot as you normally would. Hang on in there, hope it all comes good soon, and look after your selves, m'dear, lots of love, Sheila xx
Mrs Frugal
I keep telling you Lesley, if it's meant for you, it won't go by you. If it all goes pear shaped, there's bound to be a damned good reason for it but I don't think it will. I think you'll both be living there soon so let fate take its course and *look after yourselves. *which of course means plenty of chocolate. A well known cure all! Lesley
Thank you all - I'm sure it will happen Can't even think about looking at a bar of G&B's at the moment ( ) - but I do feel slightly better than I did last night.
Louise
Lesley you must take time to relax (not easy i know) and take care of yourselves Chest infections are horrid I used to suffer very badly with them but i am much better now and rest is the best thing I used to keep going trying to pretend it wasn't there and that only made it worse The EA surely can't make something out of a bit of rubbish that was cleared of the land 13 years ago What was the waste exactly was it hazardous or something
Lesley
No, not hazardous, otherwise the EA would have taken action at the time. As far as we know, just rubble and concrete type waste. I have pretended for the last 5 days that I'm OK - today I will admit that I'm not and I'm having a rest
Louise
Fingers crossed they will come to their senses then Enjoy the rest today hopefully if it is a nice day you can chill out in the sunshine but wrap up warm as itis still cold
