Steam cleaner

Recommended Posts

Ah, gosh, I can't believe this thread! I ordered a steamer yesterday (half price in the paper) logged in this morning and found this topic. I'm so glad as I was wondering if I'd be disappointed and out of pocket.

We're so penniless, any plans we had to do up our house have been put on hold due to another stint on maternity leave this year. So, I thought the steamer would help clean up the bathroom and kitchen tiles (which are ok in themselves, just the grout that needs a face-lift.) and give my carpet a freshen up.

How excited can I get over a piece of cleaning equipment! Oh dear

Can't wait - my oven is crying out for a clean too.

Ziggy, I believe you used yours to clean dining-room chairs? Which attachment did you use?

Mine are really old, and due to be re-upholstered really, but I thought I'd give it a try. The nylon brush was a bit too harsh I think, they are in a sort of velour finish ... they now have track marks all over them where the brush went. :( I can't decide if they are s"Ooops, word censored!"es from the brush, or if those bits are just cleaner than the rest of the chair! I might have another go, but I'm a bit disappointed - although as I say, they need recovering anyway.

The little round brush is fantastic on floor tiles - beautifully clean and no chemicals!

Olly, I used the large brush on my chairs... it worked fine on one set, but didn't work for the other, older dining chairs I have, I tested on a small area and the brush would definitely damage the fabric... Those too are badly in need of being re-upholstered... It worked great on my red suite though, the chairs are what I'd describe as 'thick canvas' (lookwise anyway, I'm not an expert at fabrics) with a soft touch, and there were no marks left by the steam or brush, just clean lovely chairs...

Mine's arrived 8)

Actually it came yesterday, but by the time I got home from work and had something to eat it was too late to get stuck into any cleaning. So I'm going to charge it up tonight and clean everything in sight  . Does it work on teenage boys do you know :lol::lol::lol::lol:

So, if I don't log on again today you all know why.............and I'll be blaming Egluntine if I don't get my forum fix tonight

You can always log on whilst it's re-heating!

:lol::lol:

Why didn't I use the wire brush on my oven :doh:

I will have to have another go.

I found the cleaner good for my wooden bath mat (think large roosting bars) as it has lots of nooks and crannies. It was surprisingly filthy though and took multiple goes.

Long time since this thread was live but just had to say I took the eglu apart completely today and used the steam cleaner to get the gunk out of all the nooks and crannies - it was great :D . I've decided I don't need a power washer after all :D .

(So much for all my steam cleaning plans, this is the first time it's been out of the cupboard for months :roll: .)

Having languished in a cupboard for months, my steam cleaner was brought out yesterday (well, the oven broke and I've got a man coming tomorrow - I was embarrassed into cleaning it  ).

The oven is gleaming, the shelves are sparkling, the door is once again see-through but .....

.... I've broken my steam cleaner  . I put so much elbow grease into scrubbing the shelves that little bits of plastic have broken off the inside of the blue bit that the brushes fit into and it's unusable  .

But all is not lost :D . I phoned the Customer Services Department and a lovely woman is sending me a replacement one, free of charge :D .
