hillfamily
Our Jack Cat had to go to the vets this morning............he's been off colour all weekend. They're not sure if he has a chest infection or if something is stuck in his throat or they think possibly both as he sounds like Darth Vader but also has a sore looking throat They're also going to test his Kidneys and he has lost even more weight........when he went for his vaccinations at xmas he had lost weight and we were monitoring him with a view to him having tests at the end of this month. As he's got to have an anesthetic (sp) they thought they would do all his tests as well He's very old - almost 15 years old so there is bigger worry/risk of putting him out :anxious:I'm hoping the vets will phone soon to let me know what they have found. He's a very special cat - he was a birthday pressie from my late husband .........earn't him lots of brownie points as he wasn't an animal person but he knew how much I wanted a cat (and it was a free pressie as a work colleague's cat had had kittens and they needed to found homes )
Olly
sorry to hear that, it's worrying isn't it - hope they can find out what's wrong. They always give you the warning about older cats + anaesthetic, they have to, but none of mine ever had a problem with it. Hope they can solve the mystery of why he's a bit ho"Ooops, word censored!" anyway - poor old Jack.
Snowy
Poor old Jack - I do hope they find out what is wrong and are able to sort him out. What a worry for you. (((hugs)))

Goosey Lucy
Poor Jack, hope he's ok. My cat has been poorly since Christmas Eve, she's finally started to perk up in the last few days. She's 17 with kidney problems but coped really well with a recent anaesthetic. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you both.

hillfamily
Thanks Guys It's such a worry when they're poorly Jack has just come home form the vets.........fortunately there wasn't anything stuck in his throat but he does have the equivilent of cat tonsilitis and a chest infection :( His blood tests came back OK so they've put his weight loss down to old age and being fussy about what he eats - changes his mind every few days about which cat food he'll eat He's be given a very strong anti-inflamatory injection and a long lasting, slow release antibiotic injection for his chest infection - his throat infection has been caused by a virus so that just needs some tlc -(vet thought that as his throat is so inflamed it would best not to have medication in tablet form). He's finally eaten some very soft cat food and is now sleeping on my bed..........i've put the electric blanket on for him so he's nice and snugly We've just got to be careful as his inflammed throat has been caused by a virus so our other cats may catch it - so a worrying few days ahead
bronze
I'm glad hes come home again , thats always a worry. I'm also pleased to hear its nothing worse and I hope he get s better soon.
hillfamily
I forgot to say...................he's lost his meow It will come back when his throat gets better.............it'll be very quiet until then as he always says hello whenever he comes in - as in the cat that was on Richard & Judy only, everyone I know says our Jack's hello was far better
Olly
phew, that's a relief! To be honest, if he's been around your other cats they've probably already got/had the virus and perhaps being a bit fitter, they've got over it. Welly loves the electric blanket ... I have to shove him off the bed so I can get in! Very glad to hear Jack is on the mend, I'm sure a bit of TLC will soon bring his meow back. chrisnrob
Glad to hear that he's home and hope he makes a full recovery quickly. You can always gently warm his favourite food in the microwave to tempt him to eat if he's not that interested. It might help, especially as he's getting on a bit. Unfortunately, it isn't the nicest of smells Rob
hillfamily
Thanks for the tip I'll give that a go when he's back on normal food. He's steadily munching his way through the vet's prescription post op food for the next 24 hours. He made it through the night OK and has eaten some breakfast - he's now curled up again on my bed (his favourite place) and I expect he'll stay there all day. At least he's warm, comfy and getting loads of tlc Thanks to everyone for your cyber hugs.........much appreciated
