Popcorn
Dear Omlet. Forgive me, for I have sinned. Today I called in sick at work when I am not 'officially' showing any signs of 'sickness' I have, however, been up all night with a very poorly little boy suffering from a high temperature and sickness bug, resulting in two bed changes and two baths, and not much sleep. I too have been exhausted over the past few days as I am finding sleeping difficult with a huge baby bump out front and, at times, unbearable pains in my pelvis that makes the simplest of things, like turning over in bed, impossible. I can't sleep at night, and I am very tearful due to over tiredness. Only yesterday evening as I bathed my son, I ended up in a crumpled heap on the floor as it was all too much effort, and my husband had to take over. I took my son to nursery this morning, as he seemed quite perky after his night time illness and I came straight home to a quiet house, got into bed and I plan on sleeping. I will go to work tomorrow, I promise. I just need some rest. Just for today. Just for a while.
Egluntyne
Your boss might be reading this. You should be entitled to take reasonable time off for dependents anyway. I hope he soon gets over it.

feemcg
Don't worry about it at all - we've all done it and you have your own health and the baby's to think about. Have a nice rest today and hopefully you'll feel a wee bit refreshed tomorrow

Snowy
Aaaawww, Gina, ((((((Big Hugs)))))) Horrible feeling that isn't it. Hope you have a good rest, you, baby and Stefan come first and sometimes work has to take a back seat (whether they like it or not ). Glad Stefan is feeling better, now you recharge your batteries and look after yourself. xxx
little chickadee
It's so much harder being pregnant the second time isn't it. You have to deal with your own tiredness and have another child to look after. i don't think you should have gone into work today either. Hope you're feeling better soon. It'll be worth it in the end!
Olly
I sometimes have what I (privately) term 'mental health' days. If you were throwing up, covered in spots or sneezing, they wouldn't want you at work - even if you felt well enough to do things. Just because you don't have any of the above doesn't mean you are fit to go to work! A day off to recuperate may mean you can go on working until you're due for maternity leave; getting worn out, on the other hand, might mean you have to leave work earlier than planned. Hope you have a lovely refreshing sleep.
Guest
Gina HUGE Hugs You really need to take care of yourself and baby-to-be Glad Stefan is better today, they soon perk up don't they? The odd day won't hurt, of course I have never done this (my boss may be reading this Take care
Guest
Aaah, Gina - have the day off, and have it off guilt free. I've been suffering with mild SPD this time, which I assume is what causing your pelvic pains as well, and it really is a nightmare. I'm lucky that I'm at home anyway, so not having to struggle into work after a bad nights sleep. Just remember, every bad nights sleep is taking you a night closer to cuddling your new baby. Has the heartburn kicked in yet? I'm on several swigs of gaviscon a day now.

Guest
The pelvic pains could by Symphis Pubis Dysfunction (see here http://www.babyworld.co.uk/information/pregnancy/pregnancyproblems/pregprobs_pelvicjointpain.asp) I had that and it was extrememly careful. If its very bad you should see a physio (mind you my physio appoinment was for a week after my due date!!!). Luckily I had a c section which meant no further problems were caused. And you ARE sick - so why feel guilty!
One Man Banned
Sending Hugs to you Gina I don't think there is anything wrong with taking the day of sick Plain fact is you're feeling exhausted and would therefore be of little use at work, plus having to get there and back. Tiredness causes accidents and you have to think of yourself, the baby and Stefan too Feet up, snuggle into the duvet grab a bar of G&B to nibble between naps and see how you feel in the morning :D A xx
Popcorn
OHHH GOSH - THANK YOU SO MUCH MY LOVELY FRIENDS! I was feeling so bad at taking some time off, but Olly you are right, I might not be showing signs of illness, but I'm definitely not my full 100% self. I couldn't teach like this. Guilt hasn't kept me lying awake, I've slept soundly. Just got up to satisfy my craving with a glass of icy cold milk, and I'm now back in bed. I so desperately needed to sleep and rest and I feel so much better for it. I'd have ended up in tears at work, I just know it. Kathy/Shona - I have got SPD, was diagnosed when I was quite early at 18 weeks. It's a killer sometimes. I have got a belt, but it's not working really, so I'm going to ask about the physio. No doubt they'll book me after I've had the baby! Your boss might be reading this. She won't be reading this, but I can't confess in my blog as one of my work colleagues reads it! I'm sure she'd be fine as she's had her own troubles with time off, but best be on the safe side eh? What a forgiving collective you are. I'm glad I used the Omlet Confessional today. Cate in NZ
Gina, good advice and reassurance as ever from the Omlet "gang". It really sounds as if you need this day off, so don't wste it feeling guilty, take some time to rest, sleep if you can, and generally get yourself back together again. I hope you're feeling back on top of things very soon.
Popcorn
Nursery just called. Stefan got a raging temperature again, so off to fetch him, poor thing. See - my day would have been cut short at work anyway. Edited January 22, 2008 by Guest

A friend of mine had severe SPD during her second pregnancy that continued months after she'd given birth. She sought help through The Pelvic Partnership and saw a recommended physio who found her pelvis was misaligned, manipulated it and after a few sessions she was 'cured'. No problems at all in her third pregnancy. Hope you and your poorly boy feel better soon Jo
Guest
I've had no help with my SPD Gina, not even the offer of a belt - did you get it from your GP, or did you have to buy it yourself? I've got such a short time left that I doubt it would be worth my bother now - as I'm having an elective section, there will be no interference from it at the birth, and I get the feeling I wouldn't be getting a great nights sleep now anyway - a large bump, and a night-loving baby kicking my erm..... bits (it's breech at the moment) all go towards sleepless nights. I've had to collect Duncan early from school - high temp, upset tummy - and there was only 15 pupils in Caitys class of 26 today - the bugs are doing the rounds, it would seem. Hope you and Stefan are feeling better soon. xx
Snowy
I sympathise with the SPD. I had it with both my littl'uns. Didn't have any help when I had Dan and sitting for any length of time was soooo painful, much better to keep moving. I was given a belt when I was expecting Matthew, but was only allowed to wear it when standing Except I didn't get much pain when standing and walking, just when sitting. Feels as though your pelvis is coming apart doesn't it? At night I surrounded my bum with pillows and had one to support my leg when lying on my side. Oh yes, and was advised to sleep on top of a spare quilt as we had a firm mattress. The more padding the better at night it seems! Glad you are feeling a bit better Gina! Couperwife
Just say one "Hail Omlet" and 3 "our Chickens" and all sins will be forgiven on a serious note, if you went to work and ended up in a crumpled heap (or worse still if you were driving )....... you did right to have a day off. hugs and hope you are feeling better soon cathy x
chelsea
Dont feel guilty Gina. You, your babies health and your family come first. Dont worry about it, you couldnt have gone into work feeling like that. Hope you've caught up on your sleep and you're feeling much better soon! Trish
oh Gina, it sound like sleep deprivation to me and if that's not a recognised reason for a day off then nothing is. It really is worth seeing a physio, there's more than one type of support and some work better than others. (((((((((hugs)))))))))
