Yorkshire Pudding
My entire garden is blowing away! First the bird table and feeders shot off and are wedged against the fence. Now the ash tree is shedding 2m branches (thankfully not very weighty ones) all over the lawn - they are bouncing off the conservatory in the wind. The rotary washing line has gone - I had hung a few small items to dry, and although the wind didn't blow the washing off the line, the force was enough to bend the pole beneath, and snap it in half! The chickens were out free-ranging, but have decided enough is enough and retired to the Eglu in a huff. No chance of a great garden birdwatch today - they're all hiding! Egluntyne
Blowing a gale here too...although beautifully sunny. An empty compost bin is buffetting around the garden and someone else's tea towel is stuck in the hedge. The tree at the bottom of the garden is creaking ominously. I must get it seen to. Yorkshire Pudding
Hello Egluntine - we Yorkshire folk seem to be bearing the brunt today! Our 30 ft ash tree is also wobbling in the gale, as well as moulting branches. There's a wonky brick pillar beneath it, disturbed by the tree's roots. OH has been meaning to take it down ever since we moved in... much more of this and it'll take itself down, despite his carefully placed props. The sunshine is lovely though! Egluntyne
The sunshine is lovely though! Hello! It is. I can't help thinking though that "some structural damage may occur" as the weatherman sometimes says. Batten down the hatches.
Charlottechicken
It is very gusty down here too! My road is north/south aligned, and as the wind seems to be coming from the north, it is pretty strong It was paper and plastics refuse collection on Tuesday, and a few plastic bottles escaped from their collection boxes then and have spent the past few days hurtling up and down the road, at such great speed you can't catch them! I really hate the wind
chickencam
It has been very gusty but sunny here today
Helly Welly
Abi and I love windy days, very exilarating We've learnt our lesson from previous blustery days. We have no panel fences, bricks in the bottom of the dustbin and one on the lid and blocks around the bottom of the bird table.
Popcorn
I love a bright, blustery day. It's gorgeous here today. Shame I'm in work really as I'm not getting the best of the day. Leaving soon while the sun is still up. I'm in the office on the 10th floor of a tower block. It's really windy up here - some wierd and wonderful noises going on outside the window, and I've seen no end of carrier bags go floating past
Yorkshire Pudding
Our bird table escaped the blocks around its base and is now safely laid on its side. Alas the rotary washing line is no more! At least the chickens are safe, if a little ruffled!
The Dogmother
It was calm her first thing, then the wind got up around lunchtime. Nowhere near as bad as you've got it, but still on the blustery side!
feemcg
It's been horrendous here today - very strong winds and torrential rain . I had a job interview and in the short distance from the car got soaked - turned up like a 'droont rat' as they say around these parts (how to make a good impression ). Egluntyne
Came home this aft to find my blue bin in the middle of the front lawn and contents everywhere.
Ain't Nobody Here
We had a really wild night and at one point I'm sure the whole house rocked . The dog certainly jumped . I've got my birdtable strapped to a tree and my compost bin strapped to a sturdy bush . No tiles off the neighbours' roof this time but I have gained a lid from their sandpit . hillfamily
Hope you're all OK - still with us everyone 'up north' It's not been too bad down south today - very very cold wind but no gales thankfully Hang in there (or onto something solid)
Egluntyne
Watching Look North at teatime we were shown a plane landing sideways at Leeds Bradford Airport. Some very skillful work from the pilot. Lorries blown over right left and centre on the A1M and a roof blown of a brand new building....in Leeds I think. It has calmed down now. riane
Today as I was doing my best but failing to control 26 four year old children running and screaming around the gym in a p.e. lesson. I stopped to count to 10 slowly and caught sight of all the debris blowing past the window and remembered the wise words from a retired nursery teacher.....never do PE on windy days !!! The Dogmother
It's true, the wind is supposed to drive peope mad... my dog hated it, she went bonkers.
Ain't Nobody Here
We all notice worse behaviour than normal from a lot of kids at school on very windy days . Unfortunately, Edinburgh tends to be a very windy city .
Yorkshire Pudding
Certainly when I picked up my 6-year-old yesterday, he was very very bouncy and all the staff were exhausted! I can confirm the roof off the Leeds building story - it caused traffic jams everywhere. When I tried to collect OH from work last night it was very difficult to get into or out of the city, and this was at 6.50 on a Friday - normally everyone would have long gone. POETs day, don't you know. Today we have grey skies and bluster, the chickens are looking ruffled, but nothing seems to have come loose and our roof is intact (phew). Hope your interview went well, Fee!
Ain't Nobody Here
POETs day, don't you know. Poet, not only do you have oaty bars named after you, there's a whole day in your honour now .
Yorkshire Pudding
There are POETy bars too? I missed that! There are 52 POETs days every year, so she is very highly honoured indeed!

little chickadee
Those oaty bars look yummy - I'll have to try them! My son is currently listening to the Faraway Tree at bedtime and When he went out waling the dog with OH today in the woods, he came home saying that they had been in the land of windy winds! OH said they thought Holly was going to take off. (she's a greyhound, so wears a coat in winter, which can act a bit like a kite!!!!!) Yorkshire Pudding
They do look yummy, I'll have to try making those with the boys. I just made a rhubarb and custard tart. The very famous rhubarb place that forces rhubarb by candlelight (you might have seen it on foodie progs - I think Rick Stein visited) is just down the road from me. So when the first of the forced rhubarb comes in I go a bit mad and make rhubarb everything. I wonder how rhubarb Poety Oaty bars would work? Ain't Nobody Here
I've tried them with blueberries, raisins, and using Dorset cereal fruity porridge (on 3 different occasions.)
