Lewis
I have contacted Hatton (jsut to avoid any confusion) I can get a lift as long as it is not too far. I have tried the NFU, national sheep association and shepe farmeres on yell.com, still with no luck A friend has a placement and she is going to ask if i can go along and help out. So hopefully I will be able to go lambing afterall

Lesley
I suppose Moreton Morrell Agricultural College is too far for a lift then? We did a lambing course there last year - they keep a lot of sheep.
Aunty e
Go live in Shetland for a couple of years and see if you can avoid lambing! I was six when it was my first lambing season and ended up being dragged in to help - apparently little arms and hands are good at that sort of thing. Handy I was squeamish particularly. Lewis
I finally have a placement in the easter holidays! The national sheep association put me in contact with a farmer who lives 10 minutes away from me. I am due to go lambing in the easter holidays, so expect some pictures soon. Hope your work experience goes well and if you get any pictures of lovely little lambs you want to post - feel free - would be great to see them. Lewis
Today was my 7th day lambing. It is great. I start at 7 or 8 ish and finish at 4 o'clock. I can now say that I have castrated lambs, had my arm up a sheep TWICE and I now know how to 'turn a sheep' (make it sit down on its bum!) I have learnt quite a bit about how to look after sheep and what signs to look out for when they in labour. Me with my arm up a sheep! Lesley
What a wonderful time you've been having! - I'm glad you're enjoying it. It's a good job you weren't planning on going to Moreton Morrell Ag. College - it burnt down last week - all their courses (and weddings) are cancelled for this year. We're lucky we did our lambing course last year. We had some close friend who used to live there and i spent many a happy day charging round their grounds... Glad you have had a good time doing work experience Lewis - sounds like good fun and at least they didn't make you do the night shift! I did the stuff you mentioned in an NVQ Agriculture at secondary school - our school had a farm You going to go to agricultural college next? gooner.girl
Cool - thats all good experience then Do you know whether you'd prefer to specialise in farm animals yet - or the general 'pets' stuff?
The Dogmother
Great news! Looks like you enjoyed yourself and all good stuff for the CV. I used to help lambing on a friends' farm in Cornwall - I loved it. Helps that I have small hands and am very strong!
