Chickens@61
well, the run and coop were finished and they just looked so empty (our 4 ex-batts are not arriving unitl 3rd may).. so today i managed to persuade my better half into purchasing two little bantee's. we went to "have a look" at a poultry breeder's (westaway, near rutland - who were lovely and very helpful) the children fell in love with the lavendar coloured pekin's, but the man had only got a trio available (we didn't think the neighbours would appreciate the early morning wake-up call ) and so instead we got two of the partridge coloured pekins. they are 5 months old, well handled and very loveable. they seem to have made themselves right at home already! so, poor hubby only finished the run yesterday.. was persuaded to buy two 'extra' birds today and now tonight i am drawing him up some plans for how we can alter/extend/improve the run i think he is going to LOVE this chicken keeping business ps) will take some pictures tomorrow & post them. xx Edited April 19, 2008 by Guest

superjules
Congratulations on your chooks! I have a partridge pekin and she's fabulous. The kids love her, she's really friendly and handleable, got bags of personality and lays wonderful eggs four days out of five. I'd get more of them in a heartbeat. I look forward to seeing photos. superjules
.. my friends all think i have gone barmy and are 'less than interested' in my chicken keeping antics!! That's what the forum's for - so your non-chicken friends can stay your friends, rather than people who were once your friends but now think that you are a crazy chicken lady! Chickens@61
well, the girls had their first free range around the garden today - they spent the first ten minutes trying to get back into their run but then then settled down and enjoyed a couple of hours of scratching, pecking and exploring
