Healthy Eating Chat Part 1

Recommended Posts

I have taken to carefully reducing the carbs and meat on his plate and filling the space created with veg so he doesn't notice the size of his dinner & fruit for pudding in various guises.

Tonights dinner is veggie sausage bake...........I shall be filling him up on butternut squash & butterbeans, veggie sausages are pretty low fat too, with 'whats in the fruit bowl' fruit salad for pudding.

Hopefully now all the nasty bugs are abating I shall be sending him off to the gym to burn off a few calories too ( I go far more than he ever does) and as soon as the weather warms up we shall be going on family bike rides ( LMW loves riding her bike so that shouldn't be too tricky)

The trickiest bit will be when he's away for work or when I am at work. I have primed LMW to make sure they have healthy dinners when I'm not around.

Hi folks thanks for the welcomes and the tips :D I really like the bit about butter portions being the size of a finger nail - so that's where I've been going wrong :) (and the alcohol too) Haven't actually weighed myself yet - too scared to look at the nunbers :!: I'll have a go next week. Here's to you all (toasts with imaginary diet coke :!: )Allisonx

It often goes like that especially if you're exercising. You seem to tone up without losing the weight and it seems to happen overnight.

At the minute with my weight loss being so rapid I buy a pair of jeans in a smaller size as soon as I get into the size above it (ebay and charity shops are great) one day they'll not do up and the next day they will, it's really odd.

Oh well shouldn't complain, eh?

Just to let you know I have lost 8lbs now since January 1st, only 2 more to go to my original target but at this rate I think I could have shed a stone before St Lucia ( leaving three weeks today!!):dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:

The two chunks of chocolate every night seems to work!

Ok, I'm just on the diet pepsi & lunch is under the grill. Best be quick...

Wholemeal bread, waferthin ham (chopped), half fat cheese & some pineapple on the top! Followed by 2 satsumas.

I have to admit, I didn't feel hungry this morning.

Well done Rhapsody!

My aim is to wear a bustier top at Xmas this year!

Great goal Craftyhunnypie!

I was eating my lunch in the staffroom today and my freind, who diets BADLY, commented on me finishing my lunch with a chocolate biscuit (flavoured not coated!). I explained the major differences between her and me, I had one biscuit, home made and I knew EXACTLY what went into it and have a rough idea of the calorie count. I know that biscuit is delicious and worth eating. I also bring it to school on it's own. Last week she bought a packet of biscuits and before she knew it half were gone. Biscuits are high in fat but one for a dessert is OK. Oh and I'm not dieting - I'm maintaining, if I was dieting I wouldn't eat a biscuit.

Last week we looked at healthy eating. She was eating rice cakes. Chocolate ones. They are RIDICULOUSLY high in fat and 3 times the calories of the marmite ones I prefer. Of course marmite is not to everyones taste. Labelling and perceptions are still such a big part of healthy eating. "Ooops, word censored!"ody things rice cakes are bad, they are marketed as a "healthy" snack. BUT marketing is all just that - only believe what you see with your own eyes.

My healthy eating is a balancing act. I love crisps and they were my major downfall. I used to eat a huge bag of kettle chips EVERY NIGHT. Now I have one small bag of crisps every Saturday, for my lunch. They are no longer a snack item but a single meal replacement. I know how high in fat and calories they are but they taste TOOOO good to give up completely. If I have the urge to snack in the evening now I have rice cakes, the marmite ones, 30 calories each and not too much fat. I also have a 90 calorie ice cream (del monte smoothie) where I used to eat a third of a Vienetta! I make my lunch rather than surrendering to the unhealthy stuff in the school canteen (OK so you can't get a turkey twizzler any more but you can still get chips one day a week, things covered in pastry etc). I limit myself to 2 slices of home made bread a day (three at a push but they are very small slices). I like a "big" meal in the evening, something that takes a while to eat so I have loads of pickles which are fat free and low in calories. I drink mainly black coffee, or have skimmed milk. My breakfast yoghurt is now fat free rather than full fat and I ration the cheese - I know roughly the size portion I can allow myself and I stick to it.

Sorry to sound preachy again but I had another urge to write it all down - I often find that helps with re-inforcing your goals.

That sounds good Pengy. It is obvious that when people follow LL properly, that they have an excellent support and counselling network. You've obviously taken full advantage of that and have come through with a healthy attitude to eating

I've lost one more pound :D - and I wouldn't miss my Aquafit classes for anything!!

Because I'm just eating less and keeping to healthy food (and not going to a group weight in) I could easily slip into the trap like Pengy's friend.....I'm making sure I think about what I'm eating.

Thanks for the support everyone! I think some good points have been raised- The 'Healthy' label is a misleading one often, especially in the hands of food manufacturers. Yes olive oil is a pure ingredient with monosaturated instead of saturated fat, but it isn't 'healthy' if you pour a pint of it on your pasta. Mango may be a fruit but it is chock full of sugar. If a product is labelled as 80% fat free it is 20% fat!!

I take my points calculator to the supermarket and compare the labels, takes me an extra 10 minutes to shop but the result is worth it.

hello all

thought I would pop my head back in here. Well done everybody on their losses :D

I have still been following slimming world and today had a rather good class. I suddenly lost 3.5lb this week, which meant I dropped down to under another 'number'. I nipped past the losing 10% of my body weight target and I was slimmer of the week! I'm over the moon and it has helped me to make sure I stay focused.

It means I have lost 1 stone 6 pounds since I started in September and have lost just shy of 2.5 stone since January last year.

Sorry to crow  , but it has been a long time coming and I now weigh less than when I got married just over 4 years ago :D
